Back to the drill press . So I'm guessing that the upper bearing goes in the outer quill first & then the thrust bearing with the race with the smaller id hole going on last with the spindle nut last ? What kind of grease , some hi-pressure grease ? & How tight do I tighten the quill nut ...
Ya could move the counter shaft closer to the lathe & have the belt shortened . OR ya can also shorten the movement of the counter shaft & make a shorter rod for the lever that locks the counter shaft in place if the motor isn't in the way . & get the belt shortened .

I didn't have a collet closer when I laid out my machine room . I really didn't have any plans for one but a guy here just about gave one to me Now I.m moving a wall out & really thinking if I want my safe in the machine room . Damn't

Watch yer left side clearance if ya push the unit in the corner . If ya plan to use one of the collet closers that has the hand wheel on the left side ya won't be able to use it if the lathe is in a corner.

Yea It could very well be one or both of the above . There were finished exposed rings that were between the deck on a jacuzzi tub & the hot & cold valve handles .
