Let alone all of the damage the soot will do to the machine, but think about all of the electrical noise you will be putting into that machine, when ever i weld on any CNC we always make sure the entire machine is completely powered down. you could easily fry the control system.
Have you...
have you looked at mini mills? and the 2005-2006 era machines were around the 1st or 2nd revision of the coldfire processor, which has good HSM control power. 2011ish is when Haas went to sigma 5 servo motors, they about 18 times the resolution and a fair amount better HSM power.
the haas option is the zebra skimmer
like the one below, the nice thing is the the skimmer gets power through the haas machine, but you still have to manually turn it on and off.

that might work, but are they wiring pressure switches to confirm pressure? there is a lot of software built into the Haas TSC system, like analog pressure, taper cleaning air blast and vacuum pressure sensor on the filters to alert the operator when the filter needs to be changed/cleaned.
Z and A axis go to the same chip on the MOCON board, I have seen an A axis Encoder short and take out the Z axis encoder.
Check the diagnostics page and watch to see if you are getting random Z channel signals for the A or Z axis. I have seen both randomly pulse causing instant alarms when the...
I have heard Z axis thrust packs sound like a nightmare and the customer is still running good parts, i would not be worried at all about the noise. if its starts causing finish issue, that's when it is time to replace. Thrust packs are cheap, like $400 bucks, labor is around 6-8 hours since...
when you do find one, Replace the cable for the sake of future service issues, Motor power and encoder feedback is in the same cable, Can cause encoder failure or board failure if motor power gets into the encoder feedback side, normally a $200 cable, but can save thousands in future headache...
Yes this is possible, contact your local HFO, it is called the Maincon or Coldfire upgrade. It is expensive though. I have had to do upgrades on some vintage machines where boards are unavailable from the mfg, just install new control, pendant, and update parameters and settings. it is an...
I have Installed many machines with 1000psi TSC with no issues, or overheating issues, the new machines have an analog pressure switch so the machinist can see the actual pressure at the tool tip.
