Poll: Machine reconditioning / rebuilding subforum?

I'm late to the discussion... I would value a separate subforum. There is a lot of old iron out there that could be made useable again...And large CNC machines often have such horrendous leadtimes and sticker shock that even a new iTNC, servo drives and reconditioned ways is a cost effective...

CNC Laser lathe: rubber sheets for printing on "How It's Made"

I use a laser to cut a fair amount of rubber...think gaskets and whatnot. over 1/8, it starts to burn more than cut. I've never tried making stamps, which is softer but somewhat similar to the flexor plates used in printing. Anyway, cool stuff.

Do you work best alone or with others?

It's interesting...A lot of us like to work alone. I do to, especially if it's something I'm learning or gaining experience with. I don't want someone breathing down my neck while I'm trying to wrap my brain around something new. I think it depends on the work...On a huge job, working with...

Aux M code causes program to stop.

Never mind...I just figured it out. For each aux M code, say M2x, M5x turns it on, and M6x turns it off (or M30). Someone can kill this thread if they want, or leave it here for others with the same beginner's ignorance.

Aux M code causes program to stop.

In an effort to clear chips, I wired an older VF2 to supply compressed air to a nozzle via a solenoid connected to aux relay M24. Unfortunately, the machine stops executing the program when it hits the M code. I'm not sure why, and my google-fu isn't giving me answers. Is there a parameter I'm...

What is a Good Bluetooth for Machine Shop Use?

What good is bluetooth for machine shop use? Well, I can use bluetooth to send metrology/measurement data to a nearby computer...Or plug into a device and monitor it through manufacturing/test stations. We designed these systems that seem to hold up in factories pretty well, though we only...

OT: Machine storage in Vancouver, WA or thereabouts

I'm sorry I don't have any space. I would be happy to help if I did. Sounds like a C&P 12x18, or maybe a windmill? A larger Miehle? Anyway, good luck with it. If you need a hand moving it, I'm always up for trying to find the time to help another of the printing persuasion. Linotype or Intertype?

Small minimal cost light duty CNC?

Even the cheapest CNC engraver kits I looked at for my other half's wood engraving projects still run $1400, once you have a complete system, including some minimal CAM software...And it still has to be assembled, wired, etc. Those are deep into the realm of Stuff Not To Be Talked About On This...

    Looking for Low-Volume Composites Fabricator

The motherload of companies doing that type of work are in Hood River, Oregon (and right across the bridge in Bingen/White Salmon). There are some dozen companies doing structural fiber work specifically for the drone industry, all ITAR, some AS9100. A few of them are exactly as you describe...

    Grinding glass edges

Yeah, I was running dry. I will have to try and convince them to put coolant back on our sad old Reid grinder...Or grow a 3rd arm with a water bottle. How rough are glass wheels typically? Thanks for the input!

    Grinding glass edges

Hey y'all, I have some squares of glass (industrial measurement reticules) that came in oversized. I used a medium grit diamond wheel on our surface grinder, and got mediocre results...A lot more chipping than I wanted. I was taking .0002"-ish a pass, trying to keep the chipping down. No luck...

Parts Plus; is it a scam?

ITAR is a tricky thing. Register yourself. But be forewarned: registration is only the tip of the iceberg. Export controls are a potential minefield. There are criminal liabilities. As in they come and put hand cuffs on you and take you to jail. Not just for your actions, but maybe for the...

Is Arduino considered robust enough for industrial application?

From a software standpoint, you will be dealing with code and instruction sets that are not controlled in a manner suitable for commercial use. For instance (From the annals of having to be part of the fix-it team for an inherited project) : program in an old version (say 0013) of Arduino IDE...

how can I find a precision solution partner?

Oh, you poor soul. Trying to drum up business on this forum from China is a social faux-pas. The fact is that you are probably better off looking domestically for a market, especially as the mainland middle class grows. Small US companies generally have very little interest in a supply chain...
