I don't think a quote for domestic market parts is comparable to in house manufacturing. However, if you were to approach someone and pay them for a detailed quote and use that to get an idea of how much is labor, material, overhead and profit. Might cost you a grand but could be all the...
CP2 is gummy and not very fun to work with, but I'm guessing there's a reason you're using it. I've heard of people getting very impressive tool life from Mikron Crazy drills in titanium, worth reaching out to them. But your thin walled tubing application seems like a worse case scenario for...
Some of the reasons to move to in house production are lead time (both consistency and speed), quality control, ease of revisions, speed to market and SOMETIMES cost. If those aren't problems for you then I wouldn't go looking to bring it all in house. It won't be easy but that doesn't mean it's...
If you can, open up the hole to a slip fit and put the magnets in with loctite 680. Like someone else said, the magnet diameter varries a little too much for a reliable press fit in my experience. We've been doing it for years, works great.
We had a lot of random teething issues with our DS30 that was placed July of 2020, to the point I knew all the selway techs by name :( Thankfully it's all sorted, except for the residual pressure alarms. I remember one of the techs telling me some people didn't like the grease and converted back...
I swapped the polarity on the machine this morning and everything magically works. Which is awesome because I really didn't want to burn a weekend or two tearing into this thing. Thanks for the help everyone!
I was thinking of looking down the spindle. But the video cleared it up, reverse lever IN, right hand cutter cuts. Which apparently is backwards. Seems odd, would think the reverse knob being out would put the spindle into reverse, not the other way around. So I didn't think twice about it being...
Interesting. When we wired it, I made sure that when the spindle reverse lever on the gearbox was in that we got a clockwise rotation and didn't think about phasing the motor after that was correct. But the big pulley is not turning in the same direction as the arrow indicates. That doesn't make...
The left shaft inside the big door is spinning and the rapid feeds work when I pull that lever up. The power feed does not work, I was under the impression that was related to the saddle pump not working. My theory, not knowing a ton about these old K&T machines is that when the oil stopped...
Fair enough, It's a 2HL. There's plenty of oil in the machine and the sight glass for oil level and flow is clear. I'm not sure exactly what oil the previous owner was running in it, though it feels about the right viscosity, certainly not off by enough to be the only source of the problem...
We acquired a K&T No2 Universal a while back to do a dedicated task with and at first things were great, but now the oil in the column isn't circulating and the pump is sounding grumpy. The Saddle pump isn't working either and I've found various resources to get that sorted, but struggled to...
I went down this path recently, cold saws just aren't versatile enough to cut stainless and aluminum in the same machine. Which seems like a pretty basic problem to overcome but nobody's bothered to do it.
Fair enough, but if a builder is going to offer more than one option they should publish the testing of the different options in their machine. Let the buyers make informed decisions for their applications. Obviously there's a lot of variables but if you're loyal to a particular MTB this kind of...
What's funny about this conversation is how little data there is about the subject. Everything these machines make will get measured for their entire life. Yet we are supposed to just go off some vague info for spindle connections? The MTB's know the answers to these questions and why they won't...
I've got a 97 OE, it's been a great slow as snails machine. Having a second spindle isn't bad but there's something to say for keeping things small and simple. Personally, I'd rather keep saving money to buy something 10-15 years newer than buying a second old machine that could be headed to the...
