    Finding center without DRO

Great answers guys. Sometimes it's so simple. Neither one of us have much experience on the boring mill so sometimes our brains are overthinking simple things. I'll speak to him in the morning. Thanks for the replies. Cheers.

    Finding center without DRO

Good morning fellas. We have a part that we are machining and our DRO on the X axis is broke so we are using dials in the meantime. My question is, we have a half moon type part (picture a half pipe) that needs to be bored on the boring mill but finding the center of the X is proving...

    torque specs 1-3/4 thread

Awesome answers guys. We have determined that because of the application it is, that we do not have to have an actual torque value, so we just tightened as much as we could. I had forgot to mention, if it matters at all, that there were 1/2" thick MS washers used as well. I originally budgeted...

    torque specs 1-3/4 thread

Good morning. I'm trying to determine a torque spec for some bolts we made in house. They are 4340 HTSR material and are 1.75-8 and they are 16" long with 4.5" threads on each end. They are retaining bolts holding 3" thick plates together. but I am not sure a torque I should use. Before I...

    Large Buttress thread

Yes. Internal MD of the mating part was measuring 11.516. The nut was non measurable on the OD

    Large Buttress thread

Positive it's 1 pitch. It's only a single lead. That was the first thing I thought as well when I looked at it. I'm not positive it's imperial. I just wasn't sure what metric number it would be. 292mm ? Sounds weird. It's definitely 1 pitch though. We scanned it at 1.001 pitch.

    Large Buttress thread

    Yup. Exactly that.

    Large Buttress thread

I'm not cutting it with a profile insert. I'm using custom thread profile in Mastercam. Basically a 3D threading cycle to create the profile.

    Large Buttress thread

Hi guys, we came across a part we have to make for a customer and it has a massive buttress thread on it. The part was pretty destroyed and threads folding over, however I was able to gauge the profile at the bottom of the thread cause it wasn't damaged. (We used a 3D scanner) I basically got...

    HSS support calculators

Yes sorry, it's a large pc that will be partially on the mill, but the remaining end will be off the side supported by the legs. They will be welded to the bottom of the part. Straight down force. We need to machine the shaft areas down. I'm putting it on the boring mill and sweeping around to...

    HSS support calculators

Good morning, I'm trying to find some information on strength for HSS tubing. I'm using it end for end, its 5"x5"x3/8" wall and its 36" long with a 1" thick welded plate on the end. I'm trying to calculate how much weight that can suspend before failure but I can't seem to find a calculator for...

That was it. Thanks a lot.

    spindle warmup Meldas 60

Good morning, I'm trying to write a daily warmup program for our small mill for the spindle, however I can't get the time to dwell properly. This is a Mitsubishi M60 control and while I thought G4P120 would dwell for 2 mins, it doesn't. This is the code I'm using. S1000M3 G4P120 S2000 G4P120...

    Machining Nitralloy 135

Good afternoon everyone. As the title says, I have a job here to make a part from 2" round Nitralloy 135. I've never machined this material and I was wondering what it compares to for turning? I actually need to drill a 3/4 hole through it and then, turn the diameter, and then bore a c/bore on...

Another coolant thread. Keep using MB50 or change.

I don't see it like you do. What I take from his statement is that the coolant is drawing the oils from your skin. ALSO, drawing it from the coolant, so that you can skim it off. That's what I understood.
