New lathe, in need of 3 phase!

Your are right about that.... I have a full disconnect for shop power. I have unintentionally thrown that before shutting down the rpc.... lights act a little wonky from the rpc powering down and still attempting to supply power to the shop.

New lathe, in need of 3 phase!

I've got a 20 hp rpc running running most of my shop, 7.5 hp pacemaker, 5 hp Reed Prentice, harding, delta vert. Saw, surface grinder...etc. When needed it works great. Think i paid a little over 1k for it. Trade off, it's loud.... Did i mention its loud? I've got a Bridgeport and a Sheldon...

Someone selling a drill that overheats and blow smoke.

It was called " I Wanna" in my neck of the woods. I sure do miss that rag. Like the aforementioned paper, adds were free and cost was one dollar. Hodge

SO it looks like we are getting a thread roller

The reed roll threader previously mentioned will cover that much range and a bit more if I'm not mistaken. It's very old school but a workhorse in the right situation. The tooling will be a little pricey if still available... old surplus will be the ticket if properly tooled. Hodge

SO it looks like we are getting a thread roller

If i can answer any questions about them I'll be glad to. We ran them in production, spark plug facility. With all the track and cylinders in place they were spitting out 60 per min. I could generally change out saddles, hinge assemblies with new threading dies, dialed in and running in...

OT: Carriage bolt installation in steel?

How about a serrated locking nut, what I call a zeez nut. Once they grab, small impact and 3..2...1... done.

SO it looks like we are getting a thread roller

Years ago I ran a stand alone reed roll threader. Pretty sure this isn't what you meant but a stroll down memory lane. Three five start dies... one had to take light impressions and rotate the dies for proper thread line- up. Hodge

How do I machine a tapered point on small stainless steel capillaries?

I thought making a tapered needle jet for an old John Deere tractor was a little dicey....... 😳 Hodge

Moisture in the shop; how do you combat it?

As Mentioned by CalG and Dalmatian girl covering the exposed metal itself can alleviate the majority of sweating and rust. I have used old pants legs or old towels for chucks, ways, tables. It's a bit of a pain but it works and it's cheap. Generally only during springtime and fall. Hodge

Q on broaching 1/4 slot in aluminum

Plus one on this advice. I've seen it done... was quite annoyed with myself. A small shop might do the job cheaper than the cost of tooling.

What's the best technique for using slitting wheels in the surface grinder?

Occasionally I make threaded screws out of copper rod. Made a fixture that would gang about 25 at a time in a straight line. Then grind a simple straight edge slot across the tops. Just kept the mag moving and dropping the slitting wheel fairly aggressively until I obtained the necessary depth...

WTB plain horizontal mill (ex b&s, cincy, etc)

I have a brown & sharp #2 horizontal with a vertical attachment and other misc. tooling. I would be interested in selling, however I do live in sc which may be farther than you would want to travel. Hodge
