I found out that RS Davis out in Gresham area only offered $1 per pound for used carbide. I think Metro gave me $3 at the time.
It seems the closer you get to heavy rail lines, the more money they will give you for scrap.
How are you holding them? What diameters are you drilling?
I'm using some Nachi SG-ESS drilling a 1.98mm hole in D2 and I'm at 35sfm and .002ipr. These are not carbide drills.
Most carbide drills have recommended speeds and feeds, what brand are you using?

I put a 8mm key way in a 30mm bore of 4140.
Can you reach in and rotate your chuck at any time? I have a setting on mine that lets me choose either free state, or locked in position.
The part is small, but has some very thin parts. It currently seems to be machined out of tool steel and measures up about 60 HRc but the customer says that is too brittle.
So I'm opting for 4140 and have it heat treated to 40-45 RHc and machine it after HT.

I have a small part that could be made from 3/4 square bar or from 1-1/16" dia .
I want to hold the bar in the 4th axis and hang the part out about 1-3/4" in order to machine 5 of the six sides.
So how to hold it?
Round collet with stop? Might be less secure.

That little mill surely has it's place. I have a bunch of parts that are run with a 1/4" endmill and about 4000 rpm. I am sure it would be great for little niche parts.
I don't understand the gun or knife thing. I'm 60 and have never regularly carried a pocket knife. My current knife is a 3" chinese made 3 blade knife I found in a parking lot one time.
