Drawbar for Heavy 10" SB Lathe Wanted

Did some heavy 10's really have a D1-3?

    1942 SB10L - Part Numbers?

I’m fighting my phone here. Had to put each pic in its own post and they’re flipped sideways...

    1942 SB10L - Part Numbers?

Factory covers have a flip-up guard so you can pull the pin out and press it back in without removing anything.

    1942 SB10L - Part Numbers?

On a heavy 10 it is just a spring loaded pin that is either in or out. OP, remove your spindle from the headstock, press off the spindle gear on the end, unscrew the collar and remove the fiber washer, remove the bronze bearing sleeve and thrust washer and then press off the bull gear and cone...

    1942 SB10L - Part Numbers?

How have you tried to break loose the bull gear if the spindle is still installed? I'm trying to picture what that would look like. I press bull gears off with a shop press.

    1942 SB10L - Part Numbers?

First things first. Does the lathe still have a separate box mounted to it (probably on the rear, or perhaps in the center cubby hole in the front between the drawers) with magnetic starter relays and such? If so the problem could lie there. If someone swiped the parts you can always go to a...

Does one have to make their own chuck center for turning between centers?

I'm guilty of using a chuck jaw to drive a dog on a larger lathe, especially when I don't want to remove the chuck. Just chuck up some scrap, cut a quick taper to true it up and rock on.

    1942 SB10L - Part Numbers?

Indeed. The above quote threw me off. Heavy doesn't reference the spindle bore size. A 10R is still a "heavy 10."

    1942 SB10L - Part Numbers?

10R and 10L are both a "heavy 10", not just the the 10L. It is just a nickname distinguishing them from a 10K which is just a 9a with an extra inch of swing. If you wish to upgrade to a large bore spindle it is a direct swap. If I were you I'd find a similar machine somewhere in the country...

    SB Heavy 10" Clutch Repair?

If you do decide to take it apart for whatever reason just remember that the screw in the center of the star wheel is left hand threaded.

    5C collet missing pieces

Why do you think something is missing? Is there not a mechanism to tighten a collet into place?

    5C collet missing pieces

Welcome to PM. I'm just taking a stab at this because no one else has yet. Mount the handle section to your bed like you would a steady rest. Does the vee way groove and bed clamp line up with the bed on your lathe correctly, both side to side and then does it have correct center height? It...
