    My employee is too slow.

This is the owner/manager forum, if you keep up with this people will have to admit their flaws as managers/owners.

    My employee is too slow.

I think this may be a reflection on your associates. I’m used to seeing this in low barrier to entry roles (repair, landscaping, electrical trade). Compensate people well enough that it’s not worth getting all the capital together and taking the risk to leave the environment you offer.

    My employee is too slow.

How much does him working let you do more productive work? For example, I have (I'm making up all the numbers here for the example, these guys aren't machinists) two guys. One is really good and takes home $50, the other is getting started and makes $30. Say that I need $120 to cover the...

Need help with Bridgeport angle head id.

Not my circus or monkey, but this seems like one possible, though not ideal, solution to the issue of power drawbars and right angle adapters. You could chuck something that drives that in the R8, lower the quill, and install this.

Is it possible to spend TOO much on Equipment?

Might still apply. Anyone who invites me over to unequivocally prove they didn’t do what they agreed and then think that I’ll be happy is at least somewhat away on vacation.

Is it possible to spend TOO much on Equipment?

Could be worse. Shop I used to use would have me over, explain how awesome their $20k in layout instruments were, give me a 10 minute speech about how long they had the parts temperature soaking, then measure them as OOT right in front of me and ask me if they were good or not. You might guess...

Is it possible to spend TOO much on Equipment?

If it weren't for the join date I'd accuse you of making your username just to reply to this post. To the OP, it either pays for its self or it doesn't. Machine payments flow out, not in. If you actually need the growth then it makes sense, but spending $100 so that you don't need to pay $30...

Mamma's don't let yer babies drive forklifts

Not going to put his picture on here, but my 2 year old loves traversing the carriage on the HLV-H clone, and has since he could stand. It’ll be a long time before he’s in the room when it’s not locked out though.

Mamma's don't let yer babies drive forklifts

Ox nailed it a bit back IMO. While I'm sure at least one of us had callous awful parents, parents do generally care more for their own kids than some random corporation who's using them for cheap labor. I let my kid do a lot of things I wouldn't want him doing unsupervised. I'm also typically...

    Bridgeport series 1

I get a warning about an invalid/expired security certificate. Could bypass, but not curious enough to do so. To the OP, I have an old EZ-Trak (Bridgeport with a floppy disk driven controller). I don't have the floppy disk, so I just use it as a manual. Is your use low enough that you'd be...

    Caliper jaw protectors

    1. Depending on how abrasive we're talking there are always the carbide jaw models. 2. If that's not enough you could get the jaws bolt-ons from caliper accessory kits and grind them flat.

    Super glue not drying

For those in a hurry, you can buy super glue accelerant spray and it works decently. It actually seems to work better as it gets older. By the end of a bottle the stuff is near instant and I'm always disappointed when I get a new bottle. I wonder if I should just leave the new one open for a...

    Bearing/shaft interference

In a passing comment I let my SKF guy know that we'd measured one of his bearings to be in spec, but in the upper 10% of the tolerance band for inner race ID. Purchased from an SKF dealer. His response was that they absolutely had not sent a bearing that far from median spec and if I was...

Exacto 942B Mill, Need Help With Sourcing Parts/ Repair

Unlike a drill press where the quill retracts, knee mill quills typically stay in place by design. Obviously if you’re running a huge tool they might still sag a bit and empty they’ll retract a bit easier.
