Yes. That ship weighs something like ten times what the largest such ship when the bridge was built weighed.

Magnetized mill spindle generating static electricity??

Having read the thread so far, I don't think magnetic fields are the answer, especially with ceramic balls in the spindle bearings. I think that the spindle needs to be grounded, but almost anything cobbled together would work. Like a graphite brush riding on the center of rotation away from...

leitz wetzlar INCLINOMETER looking verstellbar libelle, but what is it?

I'd guess that it is calibrated in gunner mils. Mils (NATO) to Degrees Converter The upper scale looks like a vernier. It would be used with the barrel set to horizontal in the gun carriage, to measure the slope of the land surface upon which the carriage sits.

    Way OT - bat bite

I'm not sure about the post-exposure regimen, but I'd think it's substantial. In my case, the first two shots (given 45 days apart) are good for a year or two, and if you follow up with the third shot a year later, it's for life.

Stuff to focus on for a good machinist foundation?

These old-timers have been on the inside for decades, so what is it that they will learn if allowed back in? So when you suggest hiring these guys to help, that approval must also be granted as a part of the package. Do they ever fire anybody? If no, they'll let you muddle along, it seems...

Stuff to focus on for a good machinist foundation?

As you likely already know, ten months is not enough to learn all that well enough. I'd focus on the stuff you know least, what I'll call the "business" tasks. Quickest way to do this is to follow them around while they are doing these things. There is also a good chance that those...

    Way OT - bat bite

Given the story of the bat bite, I'd be getting the rabies vaccine immediately. For travel, I did get the full three-shot vaccine course. The vaccine is pretty benign, and caused no problems of its own. I'd bet that your health plan will be willing to pay, given this story. But get...
