Look at the parts that side of the business purchases, can you make those inhouse instead? If they are doing repairs, what parts are failing? Can those be made better or of superior materials?

I feel your pain. I use the above starrett and often use it on its edge and use the end of the rule as my 90° surface. I have been contemplating getting a new one and chopping off most of the right side and half of the rule for tight spaces. I never thought to ask if anyone had a better option...
I/we cut very small valve seats so yes I am familiar with compound angles on ID's of 416ss parts. As stated above a drill is not an adequate tool for producing precision compound angles. Is a drill bit and a drill press all you have? I can tell you how I would do it but "it" hasn't been defined...
