Thanks to all, this is a lot of good info quickly. I can get away without diameter at this time but I do want to measure offline and build a proper tool library in the CAM system that the programmer can use as well as the machine operator(s). The price of most presetters seems out of line with...
I’m looking for a simple presetter for CAT40 tooling that we are using in two machines. I have seen well made manual machines in the past but any internet search I do keeps turning up Dorian (bought two in the past and sent them both back because they were damaged or repeated poorly) or dead end...
I have an American Rotary ADX 30 phase converter for sale, a 220 to 600V auto transformer and all switches, shutoffs, splitters and cables to put the whole system together from panel to machine. I am looking for $4000 CDN for the complete package. I am located in Goderich Ontario.
I have a contactor in my lathe that has seen better days. I’m wondering if anyone knows of a source for the contacts in these? It is a GMC-22 contactor that was made by LG. It looks like they are no longer manufactured but I did find a Chinese made replacement on Amazon but since I have it apart...
I’m actually about 30 minutes south of there. Are you going to Bruce Nuke? If you do go to Tiverton, give me some advance notice and lunch is on me. With beer.

You are todays recipient of the “Worlds Smartest Person” award. I would not have thought of the generated leg causing a problem but I flipped the phases around and it is perfect now. I owe you a beer or two at least. The upside of all this is that I got a lathe given to me which works...
I got the lathe free because it “stopped working” yet everything seems to be working just fine. It is running off a RPC and I never thought about the generated leg. I will try switching to other phase combinations to see if it resolves the problem. It all works just fine when I energize the...
You may be right, they probably are contactors. All voltages read correct. The more I think about it, the more I think the inrush current of the motor is causing a voltage drop in the transformer. I can’t think of anything else that explains why the motor will start when the contactor is...
I have a manual lathe that runs on 600 volt 3 phase. The spindle motor is controlled by two relays (forward and reverse) that have 110 volt control coils in them. I have checked the high and control voltages in the machine and they are correct. If I activate the relays manually, the spindle...
Thanks gents.
I actually did RTFM and it gives a poor explanation of tool offsets as they apply to mill use but nothing about lathe tool offsets. The manual I downloaded is not particularly well written. I may consider an upgrade.
