What tonnage of press should I buy for closed die forging of small parts?

I am looking into getting a hydraulic press for closed die forging of small parts (15x30x30mm) in stainless steel. What should I go for?

What is the ideal setup for milling a long fluted rod?

I was about to ask how you got a decent finish on those.

What is the ideal setup for milling a long fluted rod?

Believe it or not I wish to make a fluted door handle, hence the material and lack of need for precision. Similar to this one, but of a more elaborate nature.

How to put the table back on a Vernier FV3A?

I decided to put the table back without the front handwheel assembly working as I need this machine running as soon as possible. Thank you all for your help.

How to put the table back on a Vernier FV3A?

Well I got the table back on, sans the anti backlash nut and accidently sheared the pins holding in the key for the front handwheel. I guess I am an idiot. Replacing those pins involves removing everything from the saddle, can I just solder or glue it back in?

My machine has a shaft alongside the leadscrew that is engaged by the powerfeed and front handwheel.

How to put the table back on a Vernier FV3A?

Unfortunately the fixed nut is fitted in from the left.

How to put the table back on a Vernier FV3A?

My machine has a standard table. The fixed nut appears to have something wrong with it, this morning I got it the engage, but it was incredibly stiff. This had nothing to do with the anti backlash mechanism as I later removed that and it was still stiff and would not thread in any further than...

How to put the table back on a Vernier FV3A?

Here are some technical drawings of the mechanism. It has a nut threaded onto the moving nut that pulls the moving nut away from the fixed nut

How to put the table back on a Vernier FV3A?

Yes, I tried it blind, it is a pain to remove the leadscrew from the table because it is connected to a shaft through a gearbox at the end of the table. I will try to find a drawing.

How to put the table back on a Vernier FV3A?

It seems to be the anti backlash nut, we tried adjusting it quite a bit, but no luck. The leadscrew will not engage the fixed nut, except when the moving nut is removed. We are considering just putting it on with the moving nut removed, but that is not ideal.

How to put the table back on a Vernier FV3A?

Me and the previous owner have been trying to get the table on for a while now. Does anyone have experience with re mounting the table on a Vernier?

What is the ideal setup for milling a long fluted rod?

My idea was originally to use a dividing head and a dead centre on the other side, another idea I had was to make a few sets of holders for the rod sizes that I use. But I was concerned about the rod bending in the middle as I will need to do rods up to 800mm long, that and dividing heads are...

What is the ideal setup for milling a long fluted rod?

Straight flutes for now and the material is stainless steel.
