New lathe, in need of 3 phase!

I use my milling machine as an idler when running the lathe. While the mill doesn't seem to mind, the lathe does not like running on 2 legs.

New lathe, in need of 3 phase!

My wife certainly noticed it when the electric bill arrived. Between her whining and the whining of the converter, I mothballed it and went back to the SPC.

New lathe, in need of 3 phase!

I've been using a SPC from this company for 5 years now, no problems. https://phaseconverterusa.com/3-10Hp-Static-phase-converter_p_68.html

How to read metric abbreviation for level vial sensitivity. 20"/2mm

I'm sure it has occurred to you that a BP is the wrong machine for this job.

Wiring a VFD to a receptacle a viable option? (Bridgeport)

Similarly, my SB Heavy 10 has a 1 hp motor which doesn't want to play well with the SPC, even when the SPC is configured for 1 hp instead of the 2 hp for the mill. Instead of digging into it, I just start the mill with the spindle disengaged and let it run as an RPC when using the lathe.

Wiring a VFD to a receptacle a viable option? (Bridgeport)

Please forgive the hijack. I am running an (admittedly much cheaper) static phase converter for almost 6 years. https://phaseconverterusa.com/Static-Phase-Converter_c_11.html It has been just fine. The thing I notice is that, when tapping, the spindle will not reverse until it has stopped. If I...

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

The retract is 1/8 inch, enough to clear the coarsest pitch thread that the insert can cut. I've been trying to come up with one that will retract an inch, but so far it has eluded me. The automatic threading stop eliminates the problem of threading to a shoulder.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

I have seen a number of manual retract designs, but only 2 or 3 automatics, and they were all relatively large and much more complex than my Stupidly Simple Design®.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

No, but I did have to fine tune the attachment point between the trip rod end and the latch/release lever to reduce the amount of travel required for release.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

Threading becomes fun when combined with an automatic threading stop.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

Yes, a simple project that got out of hand.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

Threading tool automatically retracts 1/8" at pre-set stop. Fits Aloris style toolposts. Uses standard 16ER-AG60 threading inserts, which will cut 8-48 tpi threads. This tool requires a stop attached to the lathe bed. All lathes are different, purchaser must fabricate a suitable stop to fit...

    Making a 3 jaw adjustable.

Not sure if you're talking about using this method routinely to dial a part in or as a one-time method for correcting a chuck. As a routine method, chuck the part lightly, indicate, tap the high jaw with a soft hammer, snug a little tighter, indicate, tap the high jaw, repeat until tight and...

Aliexpress has Mitutoyo Digital calipers for $34.82

Aliexpress is in China. The Chinese have never been believers in copyrights, patents, intellectual property rights etc. It's cultural, they were "borrowing" jdeas from each other long before our ancestors quit wearing animal skins.

Problems with TIG on Mild Steel

I had this same problem, like I had suddenly forgotten how to weld. I could feel the puff of gas when I stepped on the pedal. Blamed it on bad gas, LWS replaced it. Same problem. Discovered that the gas hose had been damaged right where it exited the front of the welder. Must have bumped it with...
