Please excuse my paint
So this is how it's wired along with the factory diagram and motor diagram. That taped off lead would be what would have ran the factory motor in reverse correct?
There is no way to split the leads so that it can run both CW and CCW based of the motor diagram that I...
Well I think I’ve figured it out. I think the Dayton motor that is on this lathe was installed at some point in its life. The way the motor wiring works I don’t think it will run in a reversed rotation. It’s wired like the diagram shows and one of the motor leads from the contacts is taped up...
So looking at that diagram again am I reading it right?
Wires 3 and 5 go to switch SQ2 and wires 2 and 7 go to SQ3 with wires 5 and 7 being power?
Wires 3 and 2 would complete the circuit?
Yes that is understood. From reading the manual that is basically what it says. Lathe must come to a stop before I can switch it into reverse. Even trying to start in reverse it's spinning the wrong direction. I'm just trying to get it to run in reverse when it's in reverse.
According to the motor wiring diagram the motor is wired for CW rotation @220v. I did confirm this is how it's running last night.
That is T3 T2 and T8 connected together with a 110v leg going to T1 and the other leg going to T4 and T5.
It's a single phase 220v motor. I have verified the wiring is correct to the motor. So if that is the case are you saying no matter how it's wired the 220v single phase will run the same direction? If that's the case then I'm trying to fix what isn't broken.
Switches are just contacts and they both test. Open or closed. From what I can make of the wiring diagram they are correct. The wires both go up to the junction box so it maybe something there. I can’t find a wiring diagram for the contractors.
Could someone post a pic of how the reversing switch is wired down by the tailstock? My lathe is running the same direction no matter what position the lever is in. I’ve checked all the wiring in the junction box and it all looks right. That’s the last place I could think of to check for a...
I’ve got a little shit here since I’ve joined but I think it comes with the territory. My read is a lot of this group do this for a living and don’t have time for BS. I can respect that being a guy who bought a mill because I thought it would be fun.
