OT- A math question about how much a circumference is changed by a change in the radius of a large object

You are very correct and I am very incorrect. I am going to delete my original post so as not to mislead anyone who may stumble upon it and take it as truth...especially if they are in outer space running some quick calculations to keep from crashing into the sun...i.e. "Damn you...

OT- A math question about how much a circumference is changed by a change in the radius of a large object

Circumference = pi * diameter so the change in circumference = pi * (final diameter - initial diameter). The circumference of the sun would change more than the circumference of the Earth if the diameter of BOTH changed by the SAME amount.

    Raw Material Quality Since COVID?

Has anyone else noticed a sharp increase in raw material quality problems since COVID? We’ve gotten custom square tubing that isnt the right size, 1.5” x 3.00” 4140 bars with cracks going down the center along the entire length, 3/8” X 4” flat HR 1044 that has delaminated like Oreos, etc. I...

    Cant Break A Chip Help!!

Is the .025” your “actual” DOC, so .050” on the diameter? Or are you going from, say, 1.000” to 1.025”?

    burning through inserts

Also make sure you are not facing off much more than the radius of the insert, especially on those skinny 35 degree tools. That can trash the edge quick!

What are the main reasons of why this would happen?

What are the RPM’s and what insert(s) are you using? A smaller nose radius would be better because it would put less pressure on the part and thusly less likely to cause the chatter you are seeing.

Fanuc 31i hangs sometimes at M code (SOLVED)

Please try MDI-ing the door open, dwell for a couple seconds, then close, and repeat. Does it work or get hung up?

    Mist Collector for Brothers

Thanks for the info, everyone! The mist is largely from TSC applications. The guys have fans outside the machines to try to blow the cloud(s) away from their face but it kind of just pushes it around the shop. I primarily want to simply improve the working conditions (and I can't imagine...

Heated Screwdriver Bit wanted by Customer

Wrap the screwdriver in wire and hook up to a battery to make an electromagnet? Maybe that will get the tip hot enough?

    Mist Collector for Brothers

Hi Everyone, We have four Speedios that often poof out a cloud of mist upon opening the door, so I am looking at mist collectors. Yamazen suggested either an Amino MZ-15 or MJ-10. They said the cost is about the same for both but the MJ-10 is filterless. Does anyone have any recommendations...

Old Star swiss wont close collets (main and rear spindle)?

Are they solenoid-activated? If so, can you manually fire the solenoid to see if the collets close? (There is often a little button on solenoids to manually activate.)

    Rapid feedrate adjustment

Is it still alarming out, though? What is the exact alarm? When watching mine on loop I noticed it would sometimes “coast” to position and sometimes it would “bounce back” to position. It sure looked jerky, but I think that is the machine taking the shortest path to the programmed position…so...

Straight compensation for turning on Fanuc 32i

Is the taper witnessed on a part or jogging with an indicator? If it is on a part the change in diameter along the length will vary with different size parts, toolpaths, etc. Good luck!
