Can this precision level be calibrated?

Yes I see that now, you have to keep it in the exact same spot, rotate 180 and adjust accordingly. Thanks

Can this precision level be calibrated?

Yes, What I was trying to say is if you only have one level and you dont know if its good then you need another good one to check.

Can this precision level be calibrated?

You have to know if your table is level before messing with it.

    Welding vs Machining

Machinists need welders, Welders need Machinists. If I had to choose it would be a Machinist.

    flat sided files

I think if your looking for a profile as such you will have to have it made. Or stitch one yourself. I was confused with the pic. Do you want the flat to have teeth ?

    Good Bench Grinder?

I agree with others, some of the old brands were very good, Rockwell, Black and Decker ,Jet etc. I have an old B&D 3/4 HP circa 1960's and its as good as any grinder Ive had. And as stated before if its shaking its not likely the grinder itself. Ive seen those big 3 phase grinders go cheap here...

    Good Bench Grinder?

I agree, take the wheels off and run it, if its good then its either the wheels, washers or the bushings.

lathe brake issue or is this normal

Mine stops very fast according to how hard you press, but less than a second if you nail it.

lathe brake issue or is this normal

My brake is set so that as soon as you tap it the motor cuts, Im sure its either adjustment or as you say glazing. Get someone to look as you apply the brake and. see whats going on.

lathe brake issue or is this normal

I also have a Victor Lathe, when I got it the brake sucked, took the shoes to a reline shop and adjusted it. Could be adjustment, worn shoes or faulty linkage. Or grease or oil soaked shoes.

How do you handle people touching your tools.

I didnt mind letting someone else borrow my tools, but if they asked more than once then I say you obviously need one so buy one.

    Shipping a granite surface plate?

The shippers probably refused because its likely to get delivered in pieces. I suppose if you crated it with some good packing, lie and say its a rock and take your chances ? They are obviously shipped around the world to suppliers.
