I use the orange, red or orange pigment as we used to use red lead. A highlighter or it dulls the iron from being shiny. Not on the granite plate. Ensuring the coat of prussian blue on the granite is thick enough, but not too thick
In the old days using Dykem paste. I used a cut off thumb of a leather glove as it fit deep in a dovetail. Also some hard white felt. I still use both and a cut short bristles if a paint brush.- Richard King

I say WHO CARES on a test. I can guarantee it creeps or moves as my Dad did it, I have done it and dozens of my students have seen it. And as Professor Slocum said it's a know fact for years. I would disconnect the power (electric) and lock it out. Then shift it to the higher RPM spindle speeds and try to turn the chuck. There is also a neutra, so see if you can find it.
