these folks have a pretty good cross reference of steels http://www.metalravne.com/steelselector/html/steel_index.html. according to their site, 42CrMo4 is the DIN and the EN number for AISI 4140. the metalravne site is also a good source for basic heat treat information.

on anything like this, first read the mfg book about replacing boards and whatnot. second call mfg and find out the exact series/revision control card you need. you guess and assume, you pay. no they dont teach stuff like this at college, the military used to but now contracts it all out.

the last one we built at the office had a barrel of 2 1/2 inch Sch 80 CPVC. For propellant we had a 6 inch piece of 2" black steel pipe that was pressurized to about 100psi with compressed air. for projectiles we used 20oz soda bottles filled with water. worked well, best shot was about 100...
right, and never use the restroom or get a drink or smoke a cigarette or talk on the phone. give me a break. you are probably the one who cherry picks the "easy" jobs so you can sit and stare at your navel as the machine toils away. Ah for the good old days, when i could pay you in script...
if you have someone who can devote a week or two of time, you should be able to do all you need with Microsoft office and a job status board. use office to schedule, work up quotes, create job sheets and such. with only 12 folks on the floor, you should never have more than 12 jobs going at...
I worked for a large multi-national that was notorious about paying late. If a bill was due the last week of the month, it was almost always paid after the 1st so that the corporate month income statement would look better. I ran out of material the afternoon of the 31st and could not open the...
look at the cost of punch then ream then tap(mostly time) compared to buying a combination drill/tap(about $39ea from McMaster) and just having one operation.

i would use high temp rated crimp on, then fill crimped area with solder. for some connections on my furnaces, i use ceramic wire nuts that are rated to 1500F.

what would happen if you did not pay your suppliers for a year? why should you treat your customers any different. new customers 50% when order placed, 50% on delivery. then go to 100% on delivery. then net 7 or net 30. look at your state laws, take a copy of delivery receipt to the law and...
Motoman had a robot fixing and serving drinks 10 years ago, even wore a tux. it would be interesting to program a robot to build a sandwich and then wrap it, probably take less time than teaching a 16yo with their head stuck in their cell phone.

more on the gorilla thug. never uses anti-seize or loc-tite, why tighten a 6mm SHCS with a hand held allen when i can use a 1/2" drive ratchet, snapped the screw head, "Oh well, call maintenance". thinks job sheets, equipment manuals, and guides should stay in the office, "Oh, that an 8x1.25...
the gorilla thug machinist sounds like 1/2 the workers at my former job. yes, they some times got the job done in half the time, but usually the job was quarter butt(half as good as half a**). sure, we all have broken drill bits and end mills, but the gorilla is the one who never uses...
I would not order from Grainger unless they were the only source. their prices are way high. I would only buy nuts, bolts, and screws from Fastenal, an then only if i need them asap. McMaster/Carr has better selection than either, ok pricing, outstanding customer service. MSC is ok, best if...
