    Westinghouse motor start winding contacts

EIS Inc. likely has the part you need. It will be called a "stationary switch". They have several for Westinghouse. Might be kinda pricey though. Might try just cleaning up the ones you have

    Us motors

The asbestos in US motors was in the slot lining material. Once wound the entire stator assembly would typically be sealed in varnish, so the asbestos shouldn't be a problem for what you want to do.

    Wanted - Low RPM motors

The sort of motors you are seeking were widely used in older elevator hoists. For better or worse, these older hoists are being replaced/updated and going straight to the scrapyard. Find a local elevator service company and see if they will set aside some motors for you before they junk the...

Is there asbestos in old electric motors?

At least one manufacturer advertised "asbestos insulated". literature showed it as the slot insulation. I don't think it was really all that common though. In any case it would probably have been pretty well sealed over with varnish. I think the risk would be pretty minimal, certainly...

Yet another Hendey! #27733 alive and (mostly) well. Crossfeed issue

Gentlemen, Thank you A picture is, as they say worth a thousand words... From looking at what I see here, this is what I gather: The gear that meshes with the worm is free to spin (normally) on the hollow shaft sleeve. The small gear that meshes to the intermediate gear (up to the cross...

Yet another Hendey! #27733 alive and (mostly) well. Crossfeed issue

Below should be before and after pics of the 16 X 8 Conehead I picked up about 10 years ago. From what I've read here, I surmise it to be a late '29. (Hendeyman, If you can shed any further light on the history I'd sure appreciate it!) Overall, I'd say this lathe is in pretty good shape...

    575 volt "cold saw"

IEC = International Electrotechnical Commission. It's an international standard that manufacturers use for interchangeability similar to NEMA that we use here in the states. Find the frame number on your motor, then find a single or 3 phase 240 motor with the same frame number and suitable...

    575 volt "cold saw"

That motor will require more than a straight re-wind. While converting a 3ph motor to single phase is technically possible, it would require the addition of a starting winding and some form of relay to disconnect it. Then you have the 2-speed aspect. In a single phase 2-speed motor, the motor...

Low speed motor for phase converter....720 rpm?

Actually 6 pole is 1200(1140) RPM

Low speed motor for phase converter....720 rpm?

I was scrounging through a local scrapyard last week when I happened upon a recent drop-off- A rather pristine 10hp Westinghouse of late '20s early '30s vintage. 720 rpm, single voltage, 6 lead, ring oiled. The motor drove an elevator hoist, which probably accounts for it's well maintained...

    Frigidaire Flowing Cold

Those big old R-I motors are highly sought after, pass it on! That cast iron base is pretty cool as well

    Scrap yard finds

It's great to see a yard that actually sets the stuff nicely to the side. Most places just snatch it up off the trailer with a orange peel and swing it into the pile.

Dismantling Threaded Aluminum Electrical Conduit from Explosion-proof Fixtures

Consider just re-cutting the stubs clean and square and re-thread with a die as close to the fixture as the die will allow. Fixture will now just have a male thread

    Old machines in Kansas city

I didn't think that auction ended until 6/30. I just checked and it is indeed still active. There's still time everyone!
