    VFD Compressor actually save money?

Oh I should add, our compressor set in on off mode runs from 90 to 125 PSI and takes approximately 3.5 minutes. The cool-down is set to 1 minute but the compressor its self will not run for less than a 10 minute cycle so it idles for 6.5 minutes, then shuts off for 30 seconds maybe 2 minutes and...

    VFD Compressor actually save money?

Our shop fluctuates a lot on our CFM needs. We currently have a 20HP 77 CFM Ingersoll rand compressor running modulation mode @ 90 PSI, about 22-24 amps. We have kicked around a few ideas like getting 2 10hp and running them one or two, but I really like the idea of a VFD. I cannot find anything...

Vendor Screw ups, Messed up parts.

Good afternoon all. So for the last 10 years we have had good luck with most of our vendors, but it seems as 2020 was an exception to the exceptionally good work everyone has done. We have had our anodizer screw up, our phosphate guys screw up, our Cadmium company screwed up and even a material...

Pay Rates for employees. New to Expert.

Unfortunately, I am the owner, inspector, the boss, and another operator. I was doing the other things necessary to keep the business going and unfortunately assumed he was making good parts. I mean it was a simple headed pin. 2 dia, oal, and a chamfer. Sorry for the late reply on this. I was...

OT: Best Hearing Aid For Machine Shop.

I think ill order a pair and report back. I like these, but prefer wireless, or uncorded I guess. My kids have airpods and airpod pro, I have the pixel buds. Wonder how these will help in the machine shop. Might be an untapped market.

I think our next step in this starting over process is hiring an AWESOME office manager. Someone to do all the above to keep us on the machines. I drove past both Jeff Bezos' and Elon Musk's buildings last night (Blue Origin and SpaceX) and thought to myself, how the heck can they fill these...

Pay Rates for employees. New to Expert.

Well we are down to a 2 man shop now. My dad and I. We realized 2 people at $16 an hour would get less done between the both of them than one guy running 2 machines at $25-30 an hour. I am sitting here looking at this post while the 2 machines they were running, are running perfect parts. I...

Pay Rates for employees. New to Expert.

We have 3 Integrex (lathes) and 4 vertical mills. I don't think they are capable of running more than one machine. We have AC and it gets up to maybe 80 at the heat of the day of summer. Could use a bigger or second unit.

Pay Rates for employees. New to Expert.

Well, what do you guys do to evaluate what an employee is actually worth? Like what do you guys think each level is worth? What are your different expectations at each level? Brand new guy, never seen calipers, or even pressed green button. 14-16? Guy that worked somewhere else for a while...

No one to fill his place. The 45* chamfer was 37* We usually check parts first thing in the morning but with the lack of employees, we have been more busy then ever and skipped it. Obviously that wont happen again.

Well the employees we have no do not show much interest in getting better. They just want to sit there, run parts (good or bad), and get their paychecks as quick as possible. They are not in this program at the school. I may need to get an employee from the school and start with a fresh person...

Pay Rates for employees. New to Expert.

Hey everyone. I know this is always a touchy subject but I am having a hard time finding people at any rate. And when I do, I am mostly always surprised by how much they want to start, even without the experience. I know you definitively get what you pay for in life as well as employees. We are...

    Email setup?

Hey everyone. So we are considering revamping our email system. Currently we have one person in the office as well as myself 1/2 the time doing owner stuff on the computer. I do email, bids, taxes, etc. Sometimes our customers or vendors will email me for a clarification or something that can be...
