I will be passively looking around for an EA, but I will probably have to find it at an auction, since I can't justify that big price tag. The reason I want to get a quick change is to make things go faster when doing the demos for the audience. You lose the audience quicker when you are messing...
That's me, a bit inexperienced with the BIG stuff. Forgive my lack of knowledge. I thought when you said CA, you were just shortening "CXA", or perhaps typoed. I did not know that "CA" was an actual size. Thanks for the clarification.
But, looking that the price tag for an EA, I will have to...
Well, I am more concerned that CXA would be too small, and I don't think that there is anything larger than CXA in quick change tooling. So, if CXA isn't big enough, then I suppose quick change will be out altogether. I'll just have to deal with the existing "slow" tool post it has on it...
So, I went and bought this Monarch with a 30" swing. I don't need it, but it was going to scrap and I wanted to save this beautiful, dirty, machine from dying a horrible death. It has a 4 bolt square tool holder on it now, but I am wondering about a CXA quick change for it. Is it unreasonable to...
Well, I had a go at making them myself, and most of it turned out very nice. I tried the cookie sheet mod for my taper cover on my 10ee, but the new cookie sheet I bought is too thin and it is quite flimsy on the lathe. I need to make my own with at least 18 gage. The taper covers for the 14"...
You see there, rke[pler, I didn't even know that there are taper attachment covers, as none of my three have had them. Are there any pics of the taper attachment covers available? I'll have to see about making them also.
Thanks,
Chris
Does anyone have any ideas as to why people remove the cross slide way cover on Monarchs and do not put it back on? I have purchased three different Monarchs, from three different places in the last seven years, a 12CK, a Series 60, 14", and a 10EE, and not a single one has had the way cover on...
Now I see what you speak of. Mine is partially broken. Thanks so much for all of the info. I am still familiarizing myself with this lathe, as al I have ever run is bigger units.
Thanks,
Chris
I kept messing with it and finally got 3/8-24 to go in. It's 3/8" at the clamp end too, so I'm just going to use a piece of allthread and make two thumb nuts for it.
Chris
Mine is different. There is a hole that aligns with the bed clamp on the underside of the taper attachment. This hole is a countersink hole, .5" countersink diameter, 1.819" deep, with 3/8, or smaller threaded hole at the bottom. I have tried 3/8-16 and 24, and neither screw in. That thread is...
So, I now have the bed clamp. Need to make the rod that goes between the clamp and the taper attachment. I made one for my Series 60, but don't have the specs for this one. Can anyone supply me with the specs for that rod? It seems to be about .5" diameter with a smaller thread on one end, but...
Sorry, this site does not notify me of replies so I have to remember to check it, and in this case I forgot. I will send you email for pics of what you have.
Thanks,
Chris
So, I got the cover for the gear box under the spindle shaft, but I am wondering, how do those gears get lubricated? I saw no lube on those gears before I put the cover on, and so I put some oil on them, but that won't last. Is there supposed to be an auto oiler from the headstock lubing those...
