Is this a prank? Mitee-bite ID expansion clamp recommended feed rates...

So after some soul searching I think you guys are correct. The confusion with the verbiage is really based around ambiguity of the word "off". We, as machinists, are so used to saying "machine xxx thou off the [whatever feature we are talking about]" so reading "conventional milling 0.020" off...

HOME GARAGE MACHINE SHOP… Add another machine or replace what I have.

I decided to add a DNM5700 for a cost way lower than a VF3SS. Should have it in a few weeks. Going to put the 5 axis in the haas full time, and test the waters on 5 axis, knowing that it is severely limited, but it will be enough to get my feet wet. Keeping the Lynx for now. Next upgrade will...

Is this a prank? Mitee-bite ID expansion clamp recommended feed rates...

This is exactly why I was thinking they were talking about stepover not finishing. Seemed like a ton to me. I usually leave .003-.005. But also I don't know what I'm doing.

I was trying to read it another way and couldn't really think of anything i was missing. I suppose that's one explanation.

Is this a prank? Mitee-bite ID expansion clamp recommended feed rates...

It's about 3 inches in diameter and about 1" in height. I have to remove about .5" per side. .5 per side / .020 per pass = 25 stepovers 1 height / .020 per rev = 50 stepdowns so 1,250 passes per clamp. Total machined distance for one roughing op is almost 12,000 inches.

The recommended machining practices for the clamps direct fdrom mitee-bite's site: Using these parameters it's going to take over 10 hours per clamp and I have to do a dozen of them... Anyone have any real world reccomendations?

Buying a third machine for my garage shop.

Hi all. I've gone back and forth with a billion ideas for how to layout the machines in my shop and maybe someone can give me some thoughts I'm missing. Machines: 1) Haas VF2SSYT w/ 5axis TRT160 [plan to use 10% of the time and possibly sell if the 5 axis isn't what I'm hoping it is] 2) Doosan...

HOME GARAGE MACHINE SHOP… Add another machine or replace what I have.

Got a pretty reasonable quote on these two machines so I'm going to see what I can get for my Haas and Lynx and report back.

It’s 30x40 but I’m trying to expand it to 30x60

HOME GARAGE MACHINE SHOP… Add another machine or replace what I have.

You know… this is a pretty good idea. I will have my DN dealer quote me on a 2600LY and a DNM5700. I can probably get more bang for my buck this way. More floor space and less out of pocket, assuming I can get a good price for my current machines.

HOME GARAGE MACHINE SHOP… Add another machine or replace what I have.

I have a 60hp rotary that runs my current equipment. I can run both existing machines at full rapid without issue. I can’t see myself running three machines at once for the foreseeable future.

HOME GARAGE MACHINE SHOP… Add another machine or replace what I have.

Yeah something like that is my other option. It’s just that some of my jobs only take 2 hours so changing over for that long really does cost a lot in terms of available time.

    The 4000 is 250. The 5000 is 280k.

HOME GARAGE MACHINE SHOP… Add another machine or replace what I have.

Right now I have a fairly nice little shop set up at home. Can see it here. LINK CURRENT MACHINES: I have a 2021 vf2ssyt with a trt160 5 axis and a 2022 doosan lynx 2100lb. The doosan is a basic 2 axis machine. I think if I had spring for a live tool machine I’d be less eager to get another...

G83 peck canned cycle, doosan lynx. Can I change the point that it rapids back into the hole to?

Typically I am only making a few of anything so cycle times don't matter that much. Right now though at an 8" hole depth on zero rapid it's taking like 30 minutes to drill the hole and 98% of that time is spent not drilling.

G83 peck canned cycle, doosan lynx. Can I change the point that it rapids back into the hole to?

I bought this machine brand new having never run a lathe before and not knowing anything about gcode. I'm a noob to say the least. I think that is gcode I could write, though. It just seemed that there would be a parameter to change it.

G83 peck canned cycle, doosan lynx. Can I change the point that it rapids back into the hole to?

Maybe this is a totally stupid question. 2022 Doosan Lynx 2100LB. I'm trying to drill a 5/8 X 8" deep hole with a long drill. Using G83 peck cycle, but if I run it at anything other than 0 rapid, any chips that fall off the drill in the hole as it retracts get slammed into the bottom of the...

    Brand new haas TRT160 in 2020 VF2 won't home C axis.

I’ve been using it as a 3 axis for a year now. But when I bought it and haas delivered it I didn’t even know how to put a tool in it. I’ve been making a lot of pretty neat stuff on it though.

    Brand new haas TRT160 in 2020 VF2 won't home C axis.

Yep exactly you were right on the limit switch. The naming makes sense to me only because it’s the only machine I’ve ever worked with.

    Brand new haas TRT160 in 2020 VF2 won't home C axis.

UPDATE: had service out. Turns out there was a crushed wire for the C limit switch underneath the side cover from the factory. The tech repaired the wire and it is now functioning properly. I definitely could have repaired and diagnosed this by myself, but I was hesitant to tear into it myself...
