single phase motor not starting- capacitor?

Capacitors normally start low with an ohm meter and then go up. Starter caps are cheap. Starter caps don't last forever. Go 240 Volt. CarlBoyd

    checking end mills for runout

Wmpy 2 questions on your measuring method. 1) The picture looks like you are measuring on the relief and not at the cutting edge. Where on the end mill are you measuring. A close up photo would help. 2) The picture shows you are measuring pretty close to the tip, are you on the tip radius...

    Start Contactor Sizing

From my response to your last thread. "Impedance of a capacitor is 1/2*pi*freq*C, so 0.88 Ohms for 3000 uFd. Baldor data says 600-700% full rated current to start. For 30 HP That's in the 600 Amp range, but you can't get that through the cap. my guess would be > 200 amps. Will a 30 AMP contactor...

VFD running a air compressor and regenerative effects causing over-current faults?

Correct, but as JST pointed out regen will cause over voltage, but not over current. If the motor is running faster than the input frequency it is more likely the VFD is slowing down than the motor speeding up. CarlBoyd

    Leblond Lathe Brake Voltage/Diode Issues?

Another thought. What you can do with the meter is measure the current through the brake by putting the meter inline, the current will always flow in the same direction. Then measure the resistance of the brake coil. Then multiple the resistance by the current and you should get a much better...
