Finding a Used Lathe w/ Sub Spindle?

A lot of machines run on some form of windows. Windows imbedded might not be perfect but I've rarely run into windows related issues. It's really up to the machine builder to optimize it and make it bulletproof. I wouldn't put that on a list as something to avoid on a solid machine like a Mazak...

Finding a Used Lathe w/ Sub Spindle?

Oh, and don’t get a used haas, any joker can run a haas and the jokers love crashing the sh** out of lathes. One crash on a Haas lathe and the thing is scrap.

Finding a Used Lathe w/ Sub Spindle?

My first thought was mazak, second was okuma… I don’t know exactly what’s on the market right now but an older (but not too old) mazak with the features described would be in the budget. Lathes are tricky though. A shop in my area recently picked up 2 201x era mazak QTs, both with live tooling...

    GTI and other spindle rebuilders

Also interesting to see two different experiences with C&M. GTI got good reviews from the people I talked to in the area, not sure how they ended up being so incompetent for us. Luck of the draw???

    GTI and other spindle rebuilders

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Good to know I'm not alone in my spindle struggles. Obviously when they missed an O-ring (especially one that I sent them), I knew I wasn't going totally crazy. It's interesting they mentioned synthetic coolant in the video. We are running a synthetic coolant...

    GTI and other spindle rebuilders

We've had some recent terrible experiences with GTI (the one located near Boston). I'm wondering how much of spindle rebuilding is just gamble and if anyone knows what they are doing. I'd like to hear some experiences on this in general if anyone is willing to share. 3 bad products back to back...

If you could have one 5 axis as the only machine in your shop

A perfect comparison using cars, time takes its toll on all things mechanical and electrical. Anything that moves is wearing out when it moves, rate of wear is arguable, but it happens. Plastics get brittle and breakdown over time when constantly exposed to coolant. Even capacitors have a...

If you could have one 5 axis as the only machine in your shop

I agree with this partially but it seems like idealistic point of view. The problem is people that are knowledgeable enough to keep 10 used $60k 5ax DMGs running are far more expensive than just buying a machine that isn't a pile of crap.

If you could have one 5 axis as the only machine in your shop

Off topic but related to @Ox post, GFs have turning options too... so do DVF, probably GROB, maybe the Hermle. I don't think they have tailstock options though. Interesting thought, with only 1 machine tool, would you want some kind of turning capability?? hmmm People love comparing machines in...

5 axis and pallet pool, who competes with Haas?

Interestingly the MAM 52 doesn't even come with a tool belt anymore. It starts at a 130 matrix. I'm not sure when that started but I've seen MAM 52s with belts. Maybe I'm going crazy on that too.

5 axis and pallet pool, who competes with Haas?

maybe they need to update something... pdf downloaded from here just to make sure I'm not going crazy. Matsuura USA https://www.matsuurausa.com/model/mx-330-pc10/

5 axis and pallet pool, who competes with Haas?

The latest spec sheet on the 330 via their website is 60 standard 90 optional. I think 120 would go to a matrix system and only their higher end machines offer that. Maybe it’s some kind of retrofit from your distributor?? ask them, I’m curious now. 120 on a belt is totally reasonable so no...

5 axis and pallet pool, who competes with Haas?

Those two machines are in different leagues. If you are doing high-mix 10 pallet, the mx330 will run out of tools quick unless the limit is no longer 60 . If I had to choose MX330 PP vs UMC500 PP, I'd choose the UMC500 because I don't want to have to deal with either one but at least if it's the...

    Alarm descriptions (alarm No, Axis)

Hi, I'm just getting into some Mazak gear for the first time. This is probably basic knowledge but for some reason I'm having trouble finding a definitive answer. Even Mazak support couldn't tell me. For alarm messages... example 10 Detector Malfunction 1 (&00000001,&0007) I read the alarm as...

3 phase - Open Delta Circuit from electrical box

Sorry, I probably added confusion to this unnecessarily. Regards to one incoming phase to neutral (or ground), no, that doesn't happen. After the control transformer there are two (or more.. Haas) floating connections that read 120v between each other and neither read anything to ground (by...

3 phase - Open Delta Circuit from electrical box

Ok, I've seen 200v machines installed on 240v 3phase without issues. I think there are things to be concerned with regarding some VFDs, I'm not sure if the specific model of VFDs in this case required lower 208v or required a balance line-ground connection. I didn't do the install, just assumed...

3 phase - Open Delta Circuit from electrical box

This the standard arrangement on most equipment. The way it gets the neutral on the 120v circuit is by bonding one lug of the control transformer to ground only for fault detection. The ground will not and should not ever be carrying a load. This transformer specifically will most likely have...

5 axis and pallet pool, who competes with Haas?

This is exhausting Already posted a Haas link on TCPC Matsuura (just a few pages). Easily available from Yamazen or Matsuura. Some generic Fanuc stuff mixed in with how it applies to their machines specifically. Examples of something that needs to have good documentation to develop a...

5 axis and pallet pool, who competes with Haas?

Ok… ease of access to applications resources, service availability, workforce that’s already comfortable with it, accessory integration, transparent and public pricing structure, AND price. That is what makes a competitive product. The post wasn’t really about what machine is best for the price...

5 axis and pallet pool, who competes with Haas?

What is this??? This isn't competition for Haas. A mystery proprietary control with no applications support available anywhere I can find. It could cost half as much but if nobody knows how to use it, it could be free and it would still be just waste of floor space. Prove us wrong, post a single...
