Owner issues.....anybody else get 'stuck' ? (Not A/R issues)

Yeah I know how those accumulate over time. I am just stuck in the space between getting the new shop up and running and all the stuff I already had coming from the old shop space needing a home so I can work and earn $. Seems a lot easier when I had first just started getting going and had a...

    Text/Font design in CAD/CAM

I use Adobe Illustrator for most graphic and font stuff so I can pull it into mastercam or solidworks/camworks. But I picked up lightburn for my fibre laser and for quick font stuff and graphic work I really like it. Will export dxf’s as well.

Owner issues.....anybody else get 'stuck' ? (Not A/R issues)

I get “paralyzed” often. My list of “to do’s” only gets longer it seems, no matter how many things I cross off. I made a big move 6 hours away from where I lived my whole life and where the family business was 2 years ago. I moved my family, my shop, and the cnc machines as well. Doing that...

    Solidworks prices more than doubling?

I have already emailed and stated they need to up the value of what I receive for my $ Buying terabyte or bigger SSD drives for less then $100 and them working for years is definitely cheaper then subscription based and I know who has access or has accessed it. My one PC which I run...

    Solidworks prices more than doubling?

We all know an agency is watching or at least recording every single thing on the internet… I am not doing anything wrong but why would I want my data, work, 3d models and everything else including when my dogs birthday is on the internet? Just like everywhere my phone goes, they all know...

    Solidworks prices more than doubling?

Really pissed me off when they got rid of that. I have a computer in my shop, and one in the house, and one at the family business I use when I am their working on on things there. Now I just do everything on the shop computer and bring my PC Tower with me when travelling to the family business...

    Coolant Through Lathe Tooling Pressure

I have some through tool coolant holders, I find it helps even with a 300psi pump. I also use a bunch of nozzles from these guys www.qpmproducts.com I like the copper tube ones as well, nice to be able to bend and adjust them exactly where I want them to be. They have added a bunch of new stuff...

    Skimmer: disk or belt?

I bought the belt one from Vevor, off of Amazon. Under $300 canadian. I am real happy with it. Been using it on a timer at night for 3-4 months now I think. Works well. I am using Fuchs EcoCool Ap 811 BC They give me their Canada website, but I am sure you can find it on Amazon.com...

Internal roll formed threads. Inspecting Pitch Diameter and Minor Diameter don't account for missing material at thread peaks.

I am usually doing 3/8-16 and 1/4-20 roll formed threads, in aluminum and brass. Hole is pocketed .365" deep and I thread form right down to .360" depth. They are for stainless studs, and I need to get the best thread holding power I can get. I use Nachi, thread forming taps.

Internal roll formed threads. Inspecting Pitch Diameter and Minor Diameter don't account for missing material at thread peaks.

That (and because they are shallow bottoming holes that I am roll forming) I usually skip drilling, and just pocket the holes with an endmill. But I am only doing 2-4 holes in the parts I do, and having a perfect hole is worth the extra few seconds of cycle time.

Looking for a good mid grade 3d printer to get started with.

I have still been holding out on buying a printer. I have been leaning towards the Bambu. Just have been investing in other areas of the shop still, so money's been tied up. Maybe Santa will deliver one this christmas. :D

Breaking 1/32 end mills in 6061-T6

PMT actually told me to raise my rate from the slowed down 10ipm to 12ipm. I think it was maybe a case of run out in the old tool holder and collet, and possibly hitting a hidden chunk of the old end mill. I ran for another 3 hours last night with the same end mill, and she is now going good...

Performance Micro Tools. I have had very good results with these end mills for years now. Just this current job I am having issues. I spoke with them today and they told me some stuff to try as well as asking for the trace number on this batch I am using, and said to let them now how things go...

Breaking 1/32 end mills in 6061-T6

Lot of coolant flow, 4 jets at it, concentration is at a 6 on my refractometer thing, should be around 4, but I was doing a lot of tapping last week and ran it richer. Would it being richer cause issues? Tanks is still to full to water it down, unless I move some to the lathe.

Breaking 1/32 end mills in 6061-T6

No, couldn't find any of them. I am wondering if maybe one was buried in the pocket and broke the a couple of the other cutters. It's pretty tiny would be pure luck to find it.

Breaking 1/32 end mills in 6061-T6

So l was able to finish the pockets with the tool I had in there, looks like the run out on the current tool is just a hair over .0001" My spindle is pretty new and is an upgraded model from ITS. To bad I can't tell what the previous end mills that broke where. I am not going to touch this...

Breaking 1/32 end mills in 6061-T6

I will take a look on the mill stamps on the other piece I have when I head out to the shop to see if the current cutter survived.
