Speedio won't move when using probe.

Nevermind. Batteries dead in probe so it wasn't sending the "ready to move" code.

Speedio won't move when using probe.

Went to set up, move probe into position, verify program, hit go, things blink on probe, but no axis movement.

    Power die driver?

Currently I'm single point cutting them, but the extension from the collet is causing chatter and part deflection. Of course the other end gets bent before heat treat, so that makes automating the clean up tougher.

    Power die driver?

I have a part, made from 3/8" 4140 CD bar. It needs a 1.90" long thread, 3/8-24 on one end. That means I have a 3/8 bar hanging 2" out from support and chatter and push off is a bitch. These parts get heat treated, and then I have run a thread chaser die over the part after heat treat to...

    Subroutine calls, repeat

ok, this is strange, but I sent a program to the machine with the L command and it worked fine. Just no L on the machine keypad but it still reads it. Go figure.

    Subroutine calls, repeat

I have a 1998 Hardinge Conquest 42 Lathe, Fanuc OTb I want to run a sub routine 20 times and then stop. Normally that would be like this M98 P1000 L20 where L20 is the repeats. But there is no "L" key on the control. So?????

    Brother tool stuck

When I broke a pull stud, I just did a tool change and when the head went up, the stud fell out. That can be cleaned up on the spindle, can be ground in place to make it better but not perfect. Also depends on how it sounds at speed and in cut. Ceramic balls can crack.

Employee scraps parts, brake tools and crashes the machine once a week

No way that document is legal. You CANNOT have employees working on your equipment but not getting paid. Workers comp would probably say, you weren't paying the employee so you aren't covered. Also, isn't that kind of the deal? If you own the shop, then the job that makes $500 an hour then...

    Moderately priced 4th axis?

    Face or turn?

The part is held in Aluminum soft jaws on a 6" Chuck. The jaws are bored out to .550" deep. The part gets faced off and a keyway cut thru the bore in this operation. Material is 4140 HT to about 30HRc. The part is saw cut 1.30-1.40" long, first opp. is taking minimum off the front to clean...

    Brother Speedio Purchase Questions

Cool. The things you learn in here. Hey, is the difference between a S500X2 and S500Xd1 strictly control related or are the machines physically different?

    Brother Speedio Purchase Questions

"Portland U500 showroom machine" I'm sorry, WHAT? There is a Portland showroom now? When did that happen? Who is the salesman in Oregon now anyway?

    Brother Speedio Spindle choice?

Andy quoted me the third one, and if had any money, I would have bought it. I think they were priced around 120, but that third one would have been a steal at the quote price if I had money or brains.

    Face or turn?

Before I had a CNC lathe, I used to purchase these. Now that I am turning them myself, I'm learning things. The part finishes at 1.06 wide. I ordered 1-1/4" long pucks to make them since I can't material handle a bar of that diameter into my saw. I received the pucks and they were...

    Face or turn?

I have a part made from HT 4140. 4-1/4" dia. After working the front, the part is flipped and all extra material needs to come off. That is about 0.350 in Z and from 4-1/4" down to 1.18 hole thru the middle. So, should I take multiple facing cuts down to center line, or take short OD turning...

Can you have some of the material sticking out of back of cnc lathe?

I can't disagree more than this Ox. On the death I experienced with one employee was due to trying to save a little time. He needed 5 more parts that were 1/8" long. Rather than go saw off 6" to hold and make the parts, then toss the rem, he thought he could get by with it hanging out. Sadly...

Is this a prank? Mitee-bite ID expansion clamp recommended feed rates...

Remember guys, he is trying to machine the clamp. He isn't looking for production.

Can you have some of the material sticking out of back of cnc lathe?

I had a guy die, literally in my arms laying on the ground after getting hit by a bar sticking "just 18" out the back of the lathe. This was 17-4 SS, 1" dia. It bent it just like that picture up there, little more than 45 degrees. I think that was limited to 3600rpm Pummeled the guy...

Is compensating for tool wear a "thing"?

as the tool gets slightly more dull while cutting, it will increase the cutting pressure. However the finish can still be fine. So an adjustment of .001" to bring it back in tolerance is quite common.
