SB 16 Steady Rest and Follow rest for sale

I have a very nice South Bend 16" telescoping steady rest and old style follow rest that need a good home. As can be seen from the picture, the steady rest has been refinished, and notice the wing screw which is new and not SB. The Follow rest is all original paint and parts. Asking $300 for the...

    Lathe SB 13" vs 10L

Spit, I've had south bends from 9" to 16" including a Heavy 10, and my preference is for the 13. Did quite a bit of good smithing work in the H10, and it is capable for its size, but If I chose to have only one unit it would be a well tooled 13.

    Velocity limit of black powder

The Sharps 45-2.6 was said to launch a 500 to 550 grain bullet from the mid 1200s to around 1300 FPS. The 45- 70 military load was supposed to be 1250 FPS with a 405 grain bullet, and the 577 martini which is a bottle neck type cartridge was said to push a 400 grainer (450 gr ? I forget) at...

    Velocity limit of black powder

The apex of Black powder tech was reached during the paper patch era. It is interesting to note the length the cases maxed out at in relation to the length and weight of the projectiles. For rifles of caliber .45, the cases maxed out at about 3" with 2.4 and 2.6 being more common than the...

WTS Burke No 4 horizontal mill

Goregeous machine, I had a millrite knee mill in green with white reading stripe in my shop for many years, and preferred it to the bridgeport for a lot of work. Solid machines.

Lost Soul In Need of Guidance

I agree with the other posters, look for every bit and piece of information you can find on the web, in books, and pamphlets. My approach to cutter grinding is based on first: seeing and understanding the surfaces to be ground, work holding and indexing correctly, and a bit of a gentle touch...

Want to Buy: Cinci Monoset - Burbank, Ca.

Machinery_E, I have actually found the auction listing, with final sale price, of some of the machines I have looked at, and it is simply amazing to me that guys who ended up paying $1,700. for a pile, will turn around and ask $8,500 for it. Even if you allow for a buyers premium and...

Want to Buy: Cinci Monoset - Burbank, Ca.

MM, I have two other cutter tool grinders in my shop, both heavily tooled, so I get it on that point, no tooling, no grinding. Also, I have made a fair bit of custom tooling to suit my needs. Of the units I have had a chance to look at so far, the ones being sold privately have each had at...

Want to Buy: Cinci Monoset - Burbank, Ca.

MM, I had a great conversation with Doug from Triple R, and he filled me in on a lot of details regarding the possibilities and or pitfalls of buying a machine off the "street." Doug also gave me the details of buying a machine, or parts, from him. For now though what I am trying to find is...

Want to Buy: Cinci Monoset - Burbank, Ca.

Hi all, I am looking for a Cincinnati Monoset, and I guess it goes without saying that I'd like to find a unit in the best overall condition possible, with the most tooling. I know some may get a chuckle out of it, but ideally I'd like to find some kind of toolroom princess that was run...

Educate me on the difference: Denver astro vs Ramco monoset / unoset

Thanks Man, I had a chance to play with a Ramco the other day, and I agree, it is a lesser machine than a Cinci. I am looking for a Monoset for my shop right now, so appreciate your input. Not easy to find a good machine. I have looked at several, some total piles, others with one or the other...

Educate me on the difference: Denver astro vs Ramco monoset / unoset

As the title says, what are the differences? Made by the same manufacturer, or different. Are they any good compared to a Cinci? Regards, B

Cinci spiral lead attachment fit a 900 series KO Lee T&C grinder ??

Well I had an interesting phone conversation with the owner of the attachment, and it is made to fit on larger machines than the KO Lee, in fact as of writing this, there are pictures of one on a Do-all grinder on Ebay, which pretty clearly show the size of the whole attachment. Will handle up...

Cinci spiral lead attachment fit a 900 series KO Lee T&C grinder ??

Looks like I will have the opportunity to get a cinci spiral lede attachment, but it would be pricey. My T&C grinder is a 900 series KO Lee, so I don't even know if it would attach, or how much work it might take to get it to attach. I'm wondering if anybody here has any experience with the...

    Palmgren rotary cross slide quality?

My Troyke has been as good as gold. Sat on the table of my J2 for nearly 30 years. About 4 years ago I took it off and have hardly used it since. Even though I don't use it much, I thought for the times I do, it might be nice to have a pint sized version, but not if its sub par. Anyhow, the...

KO Lee cutter tool grinder, start relay question

As an update to my last post, I was able to get the unit running successfully both forward and reverse, using the ICM (UMSR-50) universal start relay, along with a 340 mfd start capacitor, and a 12-15 mfd run capacitor. The DPDT would not work with it though so I went with a 4 pole switch and...

    Palmgren rotary cross slide quality?

Anybody here had their hands on one that can give me some feedback. I currently run a Troyke DTM-15, but I'd really like to have a small RCS, and the Palmgren 8" looks like it could be the ticket. Regards, B
