    Shimming slides on a vice

Well it sounds like I should just leave it alone. It does go in and out smoothly but thought the tolerances could be a little tighter. I guess I will just roll with it, thanks for all the advice

    Shimming slides on a vice

Hey guys I recently picked up a old Morgan Chicago 140 vice and have been reconditioning it. The action wasn't very smooth and noticed that the slides that the vice rides on were very wavy. I filed them down some which gave it nice smooth action but now it seems a little too wobbly when cranking...

    Welding fixture table question

Any idea what the difference is between nozzle clean and nozzle clean no.2? Tried googling it but couldn't come up with anything

    Welding fixture table question

You know I wondered if that stuff would prevent rust also. Kind of killing two birds with one stone on that one. Is the nozzle shield like a gel you put in a mid nozzle or is it a spray can?

    Welding fixture table question

I actually have trewax but I believe it's basically the same thing as Johnson's paste wax. Unfortunately you can't buy Johnson's paste wax anymore unless you want to spend a fortune

    Welding fixture table question

Ok what about the sides , underneath, and the legs? I had to weld the plates on the bottom of the legs for caster wheels and when I was done I sprayed the welds and metal that I used a flap disc on with T9 bow shield and that seems to be preventing it from rusting so far

    Welding fixture table question

Hey guys I finally got my fixture table delivered, it's a 4x3 with 3/8 top and 1/4 sides. I am pretty happy with it and I think it will suit my needs just fine. What do you guys put on these bare metal fixture tables to keep them from rusting? Was going to use something like Johnson's paste wax...

    Welding fixture table question

Thank you for the reply. I ended up ordering a 4x3 fixer table with sides and a 3/8 top. I really wanted the half inch top but everywhere I looked they were astronomically higher in price. Being that I'm just a hobbyist I'm sure it will work out👍

    Welding fixture table question

After searching high and low I ended up getting a 4x3 fixture table with sides and a 3/8 top. Tried my best to find a half inch top within my budget but it just wasn't going to happen, especially with the size table I wanted. Of all the people I talked to their was only 1 guy that seemed like he...

    Welding fixture table question

That's what I figured I just see a overabundance of quarter inch fixture tables out there so just trying to make sense of it.

    Welding fixture table question

Thank you guys for all the replies, I'm currently trying to find someone local to cut out a table for me but no one seems to be jumping up and down wanting to do it hahaha. Question for you guys with fixture tables, do you use these tables as full-time welding tables or is it more or less just...

    Welding fixture table question

Thank you, I am typically welding much larger than 16 gauge. I think the vote is unanimous that a quarter inch table top simply won't cut it. I found a local guy that makes fixture tables and he is quoting me a price to do a half inch top. Hope to hear back from him soon as I would much rather...

    Welding fixture table question

I might have to go this route, everything I am seeing online either has a thin table top or they are too small or too expensive. Is there a certain kind of steel that I should look for locally? Sorry I am a noob.

    Welding fixture table question

Just curious if the DXF file has instructions on how to assemble it also?

    Welding fixture table question

Thank you for the response, I actually just got off the phone with the guy that makes the tables and he swears up and down that the table won't warp but he's only been making them since 2016 so maybe it's because his tables just haven't been out there long enough. He even said he would take the...

    Welding fixture table question

Hey guys I am looking to buy a 4x4 fixture table and was wondering if any of you can tell me if a 1/4 inch table top is ample enough to hold up over time using fixture clamps? I had someone tell me that 1/4 inch is the bare minimum but 3/8 or 1/2 in would be better. These tables are super...

What kind of socket is this

Definitely a pretty cool tool, I just figured they were kind of obsolete now with all the cordless impacts that are out there now. I have a high torque half inch Milwaukee impact and a 3/8 stubby impact that I use all the time. With that said I'm sure it will serve its purpose at some point...

What kind of socket is this

You are correct, couldn't see them before but now that I've shined a flashlight down inside of the socket there are little springs in there. Can barely see them due to surface rust but they are there 👍. Thank you guys for the responses. I'm sure I will run into another tool in my dad's tool box...

What kind of socket is this

Yes you are correct I did not look up the patent numbers before but it says that it's some kind of bit holder with a internal spring. I'll have to look around in his toolbox to see if there is any other bits or hex that go with it. This one is a 3/8 drive so I can use normal sockets as well...
