What Is Your LEAST Favorite Tool

EZ-outs! Should not be available to the general public. You should have to prove you own an EDM just to buy them.

Have you ever met a machinist that was better than you?

Yes, the machinists who worked for me were almost all better than me. That was the object. This was a mostly manual job shop. Take what comes in the door, hand it to a machinist with less than two minutes instructions and send him off. I'll admit we went through quite a few each time we needed...

Requesting tips to speed up production of this simple part on manual lathe.

Lever action 5c. ER is too slow.

    Yuasa 550-007 buy or pass?

Yup, doesn't matter who makes it, it's a Super Spacer. Had a near miss picking one up in a lot of stuff over in Reno. You have to be quick.

    Yuasa 550-007 buy or pass?

That's a good price. Does it have the masking plates for quick indexing?

    Footwear

Go to the local thrift stores and get a few pairs of the largest size work boots you can find, then paint them pink. Also get some equally ridiculous socks. Get some spray disinfectant like the bowling alleys use. A period clomping around in those things should make an impression.

    New Trav-a-dial ?

Now that DROs come with full color LCD displays, I want one with optional dial display next to the digital. Perhaps even a small, bluetooth remote display that could be mounted on the carriage.

Lack of Round 1/2" Shoulder Bolt Extensions with 3/8-16 Threads for Mower Wheels

More and more this sounds like a job for a machinist.

Lack of Round 1/2" Shoulder Bolt Extensions with 3/8-16 Threads for Mower Wheels

Back when I was in business, I had a reputation as "the guy who can find stuff". This was the first question I asked, and usually the last.

New lathe, in need of 3 phase!

I use my milling machine as an idler when running the lathe. While the mill doesn't seem to mind, the lathe does not like running on 2 legs.

New lathe, in need of 3 phase!

My wife certainly noticed it when the electric bill arrived. Between her whining and the whining of the converter, I mothballed it and went back to the SPC.

New lathe, in need of 3 phase!

I've been using a SPC from this company for 5 years now, no problems. https://phaseconverterusa.com/3-10Hp-Static-phase-converter_p_68.html

How to read metric abbreviation for level vial sensitivity. 20"/2mm

I'm sure it has occurred to you that a BP is the wrong machine for this job.

Wiring a VFD to a receptacle a viable option? (Bridgeport)

Similarly, my SB Heavy 10 has a 1 hp motor which doesn't want to play well with the SPC, even when the SPC is configured for 1 hp instead of the 2 hp for the mill. Instead of digging into it, I just start the mill with the spindle disengaged and let it run as an RPC when using the lathe.

Wiring a VFD to a receptacle a viable option? (Bridgeport)

Please forgive the hijack. I am running an (admittedly much cheaper) static phase converter for almost 6 years. https://phaseconverterusa.com/Static-Phase-Converter_c_11.html It has been just fine. The thing I notice is that, when tapping, the spindle will not reverse until it has stopped. If I...

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

The retract is 1/8 inch, enough to clear the coarsest pitch thread that the insert can cut. I've been trying to come up with one that will retract an inch, but so far it has eluded me. The automatic threading stop eliminates the problem of threading to a shoulder.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

I have seen a number of manual retract designs, but only 2 or 3 automatics, and they were all relatively large and much more complex than my Stupidly Simple Design®.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

No, but I did have to fine tune the attachment point between the trip rod end and the latch/release lever to reduce the amount of travel required for release.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

Threading becomes fun when combined with an automatic threading stop.

    Auto-Retract Threading Tool

Yes, a simple project that got out of hand.
