What's everyone's preferred method of verifying 5 axis kinematic rotation point?

We do have one and it is not an automatic one, it takes human intervention and I don't have it. I do not do mill/turn. Your dealer should be aware of it though. Our mill/turn guy is on vacation. I checked the machine and the two(left spindle, right spindle) look to be generated by the Renishaw...

Can Fanuc or Brother controls take input from the operator?

That "feature" does exist but is probably out of the realm of an owner capability. I believe it is mostly reserved for the MTB. It's called Fanuc Picture. You are better off using macros for this, which should be relatively easy given the overall capability of Macro B.

    G0 SUPA Z0. D0 Doesn't Work in SINUMERIK

I think the D needs to be after line N110. The SUPA command needs to be on a line all by itself.

Not a Robodrill guy. Can you educate me on older Robodrills?

Ours had CAT30. I'm not sure BigPlus existed back in 1996. We also had a Defiance Innovation with a CAT 20. Cute little things. I drilled a hole through the side of the pull stud, put it on a chain and gave it to my girlfriend. She didn't see the humor in that.

Help Selecting a CNC Laser Cutter!

Thanks for the education. I was basing my statement on my lowly 75 watt CO2. And the story I was told by Trumpf when we sourced a fiber laser from them for marking purposes, which we also used for some simple cutting jobs.

Help Selecting a CNC Laser Cutter!

CO2 won't even touch steel of any kind. If you want to cut steel, you will have to move up to a fiber at the very least. Trumpf makes CNC lasers that big. Be sitting down when you speak to them. Some of the new Chinese lasers are OK but not sure if they make them that big.

Not a Robodrill guy. Can you educate me on older Robodrills?

I don't think that is a good idea on ANY Robodrill. In a 30 taper spindle? Foolhardy!

Not a Robodrill guy. Can you educate me on older Robodrills?

These machines were mid-90's. Fanuc 16M controls. We had to use G5P10000 back then. Yes, they were very capable. If tthis is a 2010 machine it could have a Fanuc31i control. If it is then G5.1 Q1 may very well turn on AICC. Even if it is a 16i, it should still be very capable with AICC and still...

Finding center of pivot point on 5th axis gantry

TNC640 machines should have a kinematics checking cycle if the machine was setup as a 5 axis machine. Ours did and it worked great. Should be CYCLE 451.

Not a Robodrill guy. Can you educate me on older Robodrills?

When I worked in a mold shop, we had 2 Robodrills. We used them frequently to rough small cores and cavities. High speed milling with no bigger than a 3/4" endmill. Worked a treat. Also did finishing on the same. Machine was actually better finishing with G5 at the time. No hogging. Light depths...

    Fanuc data server self-installation

On the current machines, no need for M198 with the data server or the card if you have the software option I spoke of. Both act just like internal memory. Par#3233.1 sets whether the data server uses M198 or not. With the card software, it encrypts the program to binary format first and then...

    Second shift drama

I spent 13 years working 2nd shift in mold shops. We got more done at night than day shift got done mostly because we were not constantly bothered by management. And nothing escapes the eyes of a toolmaker when you are doing work on his tools. And there are no slackers in any tool and die shop...

    Fanuc data server self-installation

You're looking at about 2K in parts depending on how your machine is configured at the moment, which we do not know at the moment. I agree that a CF card is cumbersome but once set up and you can use a card just like CNC memory, hmmm, not so bad. Do you have a dealer or someone that can come in...

    Fanuc data server self-installation

Yeah, this is what I meant when I said there are other things to consider. It being a Fanuc machine and a B5, the Ethernet function may already be installed. But you don't know that yet. Somewhere there should have been a paper copy of the options installed. But if you are just using this in a...

    Fanuc data server self-installation

If you know the control, you can probably do it yourself. No ladder mods needed, maybe a couple of parameters. It is pretty much plug and play, especially on a 31i-B5. Edit: I wouldn't buy it from anyone on Ebay, not for something like this anyway. Buy from Fanuc and ease your mind.

    Fanuc data server self-installation

What do you mean by "aftermarket" data server? Buying from Fanuc? or Ebay? Fanuc usually requests the options data file from your control to make sure adding any hardware option is compatible with current options already installed. Installation is pretty straightforward but if your control isn't...

OT- Best snorkeling areas in Florida Keys ?

Yeah, I came face to face with a barracuda. It swam right up to my face mask almost touching it. pretty cool. First time I went I took the float plane. It flew low and you could see sharks, dolphins and turtles from the air.

OT- Best snorkeling areas in Florida Keys ?

The only place I snorkeled in the Keys was at Dry Tortugas/Fort Jefferson National Park. Only 2 ways to get there, by boat (yours or charter) or by float plane from Key West airport. Not only some of the best snorkeling because of the lack of people going there but you also get to visit the fort...

    Blind Broach Standalone Machine

Standard practice for a blind keyway is to drill a slightly larger hole in the OD where the keyway ends. They could use something like the picture shown. I ran that very machine back in the late 70's. It still sits in that same building to this day, unused, as are all of the other machines.

    Slotting advice on 9000 1/8 x 1.4 inch slots.

1200 SFPM(could probably go faster) =36000RPM at .002 DOC ramping. I get 2 minutes 19 seconds per slot. Use your NSK, it should handle this very well. Plenty of coolant. Also, this is at .001 chip load with a 4 flute. 146IPM. Edit: I forgot to mention, this time was for ramping in one direction...
