    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Thanks again to all who posted information and photos. The hydrashift headstock is reassembled and shifts like butter. Finally got enough of the clutter moved to get some photos. Obviously still a lot of cleaning to do. The serial number 1WR2D5S-182 is shown in one of the photos. How can I...

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Thanks to all for the information on the hydrashift lube and cleaning questions. After removing and cleaning the secondary pump and shifter body (new o-rings), it has a quick and crisp shift. The pressure was about 300 psi and I lowered it to 225 (probably a bit too low) for the flushing with...

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

I thought I replied to you directly yesterday but instead I had just posted in the thread. Did you see it by any chance? I did move one of the gears I was asking about. It appeared to have some sort of detent holding it. Today I was really surprised by all the metal that was still stuck in...

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Elwood, I can't thank you enough for all the advice and pictures. That has made the clean up a much easier chore, not to mention the peace of mind having the benefit of experience kinda looking over your shoulder. Sorry I don't have any new photos yet. Today was just getting the sump cleaned...

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Thanks, John you are correct. I didn't see any chipped or missing teeth. With these hydrashifts, we have two drain plugs to work the sludge and metal toward so that helps a bit. Will post more photos tomorrow after cleaning and flushing.

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Got the top off today in preparation to clean and flush the lathe. The valve body came out easier than I was expecting but heavy as all get out for an old fart. I was a little disappointed to find some gears that were damaged. Not sure about what this means for using the lathe. Does anyone have...

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Thanks for the detailed explanation and photos identifying the port for back flushing. I will probably not remove any gear or clutch shafts yet so back flushing the small pump is the way I'll go about it. I plan to get the cover off today and will post some pictures of what I find. Did you...

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

There was not anything in particular just that the photos are fascinating. I just wanted an idea of what needs to be removed to do a fairly thorough cleaning of the bottom (sump)? area. Did you attempt any cleaning prior to disassembly or was it a complete teardown for the bearing job from the...

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Thanks John. Good advice about not stirring up the sludge. I was planning on herding it toward the drain plugs.

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Quite a difference between the before and after. Nice job of cleaning and reassembly. Thanks for posting the photos. If there are more where those came from, would really like to see them. This has been a great help.

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Elwood, many thanks for the information. You did have some serious sludge in there. Did you repair the chipped gear or continue using like that? After a second look, maybe the gear is made that way? I am kinda worried about what I will find when I get the top off mine. Any advice on...

    Cincinnati Hydrashift 15 hydraulic oil

Hi All, I recently had the chance to buy a Cincinnati 15 x 36 that had sat unused for the last 30 years. In testing prior to purchase, it shifted through the gears sluggishly compared to some that I have seen. Assuming at this point that old oil and sludge was the reason. I have started the...
