Need help starting up old Sodick A280

Not Chris, but your machine has a NEC PC98 inside it, not a "pc". A PC9801UV I would guess to be specific. Its a proprietory japanese standard machine with no relation to what everyone else calls a pc, the name is a bit of a misnomer and should be ignored, it uses CBUS standard cards inside...

Japanese ( ? ) used machine tool dealer videos...where are these machines ?

k machinery, worth a call to see if they have the kev variant also? Makino, KE-55, CNC Vertical Miller | Used Machinery.bz I have found rebuy agents in japan shipping for sodick parts, the only issue is the % the price increases by, and the shipping charges for japan. Agree on the 200v trans...

OT-Mysterious spammer network constantly trying to register for PM

What your talking about in server protection in general is known as a honeypot. You put a machine out somewhere it'll be found before the sensitive things, and monitor it. New attackers get in your network and attack the honeypot as the first easy target. Meanwhile you are hardening how they got...

OT-Mysterious spammer network constantly trying to register for PM

On the no location field, human nature being what it is, you could probably filter on the information fields and only reject the ones that bother. The bots are usually 100% compliant to try and get round any "No location" blocking rules, but most real people don't bother. Of course then you...

Thats cool, do what works for you, its a relief isnt it? The three fulltime volunteer mods on the forum I oversee were wilting with the load before and afterwards its like the calm of the storm. Another tack you can take without coding if you get really desperate is put a relatively simple...

OT-Mysterious spammer network constantly trying to register for PM

I just opened the code for the sign up form up in a text editor and hacked in by hand a extra text question field "Is a valve A) a type of cake, b) something dogs do or C) part of a engine", didn't tag it with the same format metatagging, then edited the next page that followed to check for the...

If you use a standard component of VB to do your anti spam, it wont work. As then coding around that roadblock becomes a priority for spamming all vb forums and significant programming resources and clever minds are brought to bear quickly. The above only continues to work because its too costly...

Lots of nice tin hat theories, but its much simpler in reality. I wasn't going to post on pm again being one of the "wacko home shop types responsible for ruining the forum" but I just bought a sodick bf275 wire edm that's a non runner so I may indeed benefit from your posted screenshots of the...

Pro's & con's of drilling using the carriage on a lathe

I'm not concerned about breaking the rack, I've got spares of that section anyway as this isn't my first of this model. My concern is the T slot that holds the toolpost itself on the top of the compound slide of my Harrison and the fact that the toolpost is held by a single bolt into a T nut, so...

Pro's & con's of drilling using the carriage on a lathe

Would you wind a 1/2" or larger d.o.c cut into bms on your boring bar and just send it in?

    concentricity

If you have a DRO on the bport its easier, for that I would mount a subplate on the table, then seperately clamp the cylinder end on and have at it with the centre finder, lay it out with bolt circle function, bore etc. Then when done lock the xy axis, remove just the cylinder and bore the sub...

Pro's & con's of drilling using the carriage on a lathe

I have a multifix toolholder with the morse taper sleeve adapter in it, but its intended for morse taper shank boring bars rather than tailstock drill work as that is what is shown in their literature. The closest I have come to using it to drill is to mount my rotary broach in it, but I...

How can I fix the leaks in my new air compressor tank?

When I've had really stubbon iron fittings that have resisted the teflon treatment etc. I have actually reverted back to winding in hemp flax and the associated thread sealing paste and for those special cases it worked a treat.

Look for advice on manual mills w/ cat 40 tapers

I'm not sure how useful this info will be to you or if they are common stateside, but I have a cat40 taper universal mill, its a ARNO, and I believe their range either came in 40 or 50 series tooling so I have the 2000 lbs baby of the range it seems. It has power on all axis with a good range on...

    Moving a Knee Mill

I lifted the rigid arm off my bp series1 boss knee mill with a backhoe (wouldn't fit through the low access door to my lair without). You'd have to trust the person with the sticks in their hand to do a straight vertical lift or they risk breaking the locating dowels. It arrived firmly bolted to...

    A die that wont start?

And my point was if the major diameter of the rod to be die cut was too large and not = the major diameter of the thread, the die wouldn't start or be problematic to do so. Pete, wish I'd thought of that too :D

    A die that wont start?

"Talking of screws the major diameter for screws is determined by the thread tips."

    A die that wont start?

Are you sure you have the major diameter of the piece right for that thread? If so, try a long chamfer onto the threaded area, sometimes it lets crap dies start and work anyway. If not and its oversize, what you are experiencing happens.
