Side-to-side play with new spindle bearings?

Wow! Thanks for all of the additional feedback guys. I had thought this thread was fading into the background. Re: type of bearings: A pair of angular contact bearings at the bottom and a single in up at the top. THe original bearings were from New Departure, replacements are a matched pair...

Side-to-side play with new spindle bearings?

Thanks gordon. McMaster lists Vibra-tite 530 for oily, close fitting parts max gap of 0.005". I'll probably order that and give it a shot. thanks, mike

Side-to-side play with new spindle bearings?

Thanks for the tip on Vibra-tite, I'll take a look. I am pleased to hear that you have been able to remove without too much force or heat. Loctite and Vibra-tite put the temperature range on their products to 300F, which is somewhat higher than the 220F SKF gives as maximum temperature for...

Side-to-side play with new spindle bearings?

Hi All, This is part of an evolving series of posts related to new spindle bearings in an old Cincinnati Toomaster 1B. The reason that I decided to change out the bearings was that the spindle had ~0.001" TIR side to side motion if i grabbed it and push pull back and forth. Not alot of force...

What material for washer between mill spindle nut and bearing?

Hi guys, thanks for the input. There is no information in the parts list other than "washer". I got a sheet of fiber "fish paper" from McMaster and will cut a washer to size and hope for the best.

    fuzz when milling polypropylene

I can't help on the milling & tooling side, but you could look into using a CO2 ice gun to save time on deburring. I use them for cleaning critical surfaces but the manufacturers also claim that they will deburr plastic parts with no damage. google "dry ice deburring" or similar to learn more.

What material for washer between mill spindle nut and bearing?

The machine in question is a Cincinnati Toolmaster 1B. I chose not to put that in the title because I suspect that most/many milling machines have a similar washer with a similar function, so Im curious what is used on other machines as well. I am replacing the spindle bearings and cracked...

Source for 14" OD Aluminum tube?

Thanks for the offers. I've decided to just get the 14" OD x 3" thick round from McMaster and trepan the center out of it. Although the material is sort-of expensive, it is not expensive compared to the value of getting this project finished. Thanks again for the help everyone.

Help with Cinci Toolmaster 1B Spindle lock washer

Yes, McMaster Carr is always there for you when you need it... Looks like there is a standard part from most bearing manufacturers ( NSK, SKF TImken, etc) with some version of W-06 that is pretty close. At McMaster Carr there is an M30 "spring lock washer" p/n 9039A117 that is also probably...

Help with Cinci Toolmaster 1B Spindle lock washer

Thanks guys. I cant find the tab, which gives me the 1% doubt that it was already broken somehow and I didnt do it. Also I don't weld so at least for me that is not an easy fix. A bit disheartening to know that you already looked Elwood and did not come up with anything. Per your suggestion...

Help with Cinci Toolmaster 1B Spindle lock washer

I am working on replacing spindle bearings in a ~1956 Cincinnati Toolmaster 1B. I'll post more thoroughly on the process later, but have run into a problem. Looks like the lock washer for the top of the spindle has the inside tab snapped off. Dammit. Thought i was being so careful... I know...

Source for 14" OD Aluminum tube?

Thanks Emmanuel. I don't know about spin casting, but will look into it.

Source for 14" OD Aluminum tube?

Thanks Mark. This just a single part so I'm not sure the extra work of roll & weld is worth it compared to the material cost for a section of 14" round bar. I guess I'll get to keep the ~12" drop out of the middle so most of the material is saved for another day.

Source for 14" OD Aluminum tube?

Anybody know of a source for 14" OD aluminum tube? OnlineMetals lists a 14"OD x 0.5" wall x 13" ID 6061 tube which is pretty much exactly what i want. But... (sad trombone sound) it turns out to be an inactive part # and they don't actually have it. I would consider other options than 6061 as...

Doozy alert- powering a toolroom Schaublin 102 on 110V power

A good VFD is the power meter. You can set a maximum current out to the motor to match whatever you think you can get from the wall so it never overloads the circuit. You should also be able to have the VFD display current to the motor or output an analog signal that you can put on a panel...

    Lista light green paint color?

Yeah, differnt companies might use different names. The RAL numbers and color names are direct from Lista - except for "Chewed Spring Grass". I made that one up. Although Ive spent enough time in paint stores to feel like it would fit right in. Tried to convince my wife once that we should...
