New to me, FP2, serial 48518

Thanks for the info Ballen, I have a 5amp rotary phase converter that supplies 220v 3ph, but because my Hardinge is 440v, I have a transformer to accomplish that. Not sure the 5amps will be enough.

The electrical cabinet has a 220v 3ph plug, but since the motor is easy enough to get out, I thought I could confirm that. There is no diagram on the motor or cover. Also just 3 wires come from the motor to the junction box. 1. Any idea how I can verify the voltage? 2. I read somewhere that...

For now I will move on to evaluate the machine further and see if any other major concerns shows themselves. I pulled the motor to 1. See what voltage it is wired for and 2. Save some weight of the machine for the final move to my workshop.

Thanvg, That is something I have been thinking about myself. With little research I have done regarding this, it does seem like bearing manufacturers like INA have several oversized options available. Let's see what feedback comes from the experts

With this being an E model, is there still value here?

New to me, FP2, serial 48518

After a crazy couple of days at work I can get back to the project. As requested Both areas under the rollers show some damage, but the one is way worse than the other. Emailed with Singer to get their opinion, but they are closed for a holiday. I assume I will hear something back on Monday...

Peter, any spindles lying around your shop? Any help would be appreciated. The unit came with a very basic electrical cabinet (by judging from other pictures and drawings)

Hey Bruce, the machine has a horizontal spindle, but not the quill.

Hey Ross, thanks for the info. I was able to get the spindle further apart and not all good news. The smaller needle bearing land has some pitting from the corrosion. Is there any options for repair? Spray welding maybe?

Can someone tell me what would fit onto the dovetail in the picture below?

Some before and after pictures of the smaller pieces and the spindle. The pieces looks great for just an Evaporust dunk.

New to me, FP2, serial 48518

I removed the vertical head and the drive train is now moving freely by hand. Closer inspection revealed some corrosion around the vertical spindle housing bearings. I decided to try soaking the assembly in Evaporust. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of what I found🤬 After soaking for 2...

In the light it revealed some layers of chips and rust, but this is not really more or worse than what I expected. I was able to move all the speed selectors, but realized the spindle was stuck. Not what I wanted, but will tackle that first.

After moving maybe 10 machines, I could finally see the back of the FP2. I believe it is a very early model, but hope someone can help date it.

    Old new machine

Great job, always great when another machine gets saved from disaster.

Recently I was fortunate to get my hands on a FP2, but don't have any history regarding it. Is there a registry to lookup serial numbers in order to date it? The machine will require some TLC, it has been neglected for years, but I'm confident that a lot of the ugly is only on the surface. I...
