Drill chucks for Jacobs 33 taper?

Hey!, I’m just a 75 year old (as of yesterday) noob that’s still trying to learn. Found the topic in a Google search for the chuck and figured I’d ask. And, it’s actually the year of the Pig. :)

Drill chucks for Jacobs 33 taper?

Perfect. Nope, the Jacobs on my Delta has nothing like that. Thank you.

Drill chucks for Jacobs 33 taper?

Coming into this "conversation" late, but I have an older Delta drill press with the Jacobs 33 Taper 1/2" chuck. My dad got the press in the late 40's or early 50's. Anyway, I'm still using it and the chuck is still working okay, but ya'll have me curious about the locking collar that's been...

    Power Feed Oil Leak

FWIW – drained out the remaining fluid in the power feed drive unit, and refilled with some Lucas Power Steering Fluid that has the stop leak additive. Can’t say that it has stopped the leak completely (yet), but it has definitely slowed it down. Do have the repair parts, but will wait and see...

    Heavy 10 and 10L compatibility

Jeez!, what a coincidence. I was just wondering about that. Morsetaper2 in a subsequent post further clarified things.

    Power Feed Oil Leak

Didn't figure I had a special case, and the reason I asked. Repair parts on order (parts: reasonable; shipping: ridiculous). In the interim, I am going to try adding some power steering fluid with stop-leak properties. Have absolutely nothing to lose, so might as well try it.

Is the second seal picture link missing??

    Power Feed Oil Leak

The oil is dripping off the bottom of the long angled housing that sits just below the motor. Don't see any evidence of it leaking elsewhere. The oil I added way back when is Spindle oil, but don't recall the weight. I will look when I go back out to the garage. I have 90wt. gear oil and can...

    Power Feed Oil Leak

I dunno. This thing has been leak-free since I got the mill and mounted up the table and power feed 7 some years ago. No evidence of any crack then, and no drama that could cause a crack now that might cause a leak. I see one seal in the parts diagram and will dig a little deeper once I get the...

    Power Feed Oil Leak

My Bridgeport came with a Model 8F power feed for the table. Sometime over the summer, the gearbox apparently developed an oil leak and I have had to add oil to keep it up to the line in the window. I haven’t dug into it yet to see just where the oil is coming from, but I’m sure it’s a seal, but...

Fixing a Live Center, or Not.

The center finally did arrive. Make that the second one. The first one went missing in action when it transferred from FedEx to the USPS. The company did issue a refund. Still needing a center I ordered another from a different outfit on eBay. Looked exactly the same as the first and was...

Those Pesky Missing Oil Plugs and Daubers

Like many of us with older South Bend lathes, the brass oil plugs and dauber in the tail stock are missing. I guess I was fortunate. My circa ‘43 10L Heavy was only missing one plug and the dauber. I’d made some replacements, sans the nice round ball at the end, and they were functional, but...

    McMaster-Carr VA Sales Tax

So I just found out. With most of the states needing money these days, looks like tax-free online shopping is about to become extinct.

    McMaster-Carr VA Sales Tax

Just found out today that my go to place for tool bits if I can't find them local, began adding in VA Sales Tax as of Oct. 1. A bummer for sure. May be an across-the-board change for many online vendors. Guess we'll find out in time.

Oil Plug Ball Interference with Sliding Gear

And that’s what I have done. Originally, the only one missing was the one in the reversing gear latch lever on the top of the gearbox. I made one for it, sans the nice round ball on the end. The sliding gear and another shaft directly behind it had the plugs when I got the lathe. Since I’ve...

Oil Plug Ball Interference with Sliding Gear

Probably basic knowledge for SB users, but just ran into something that I guess could be considered an annoyance. On my 10L Heavy, when trying to engage the sliding gear to slow the speed of the lead screw down, I’ve found that the ball of the sliding gear’s oil plug interferes with the sliding...

Fixing a Live Center, or Not.

This thing may have been rebuilt at one time for all I know. The lathe was sold in NYC to a Jersey firm (Wella Corp.) during the war and it migrated south when they opened a place down here 15-20 years ago..... since closed after it was sold to Proctor and Gamble. Oddly enough, Wella's HQ was...
