What happened to all the machine repair guys?

You can probably still buy a matched set of belts. Do you have a Motion Industries or Applied Industrial local ? Used to be able to buy belts that were actually matched by batch no and tested on a tennsioning device from Goodyear and Dayco I believe. I think you can get same batch nos and can...

    Grand Rapids #28 Grinder-Questions

What differences do you see? I don't see any and both look just like my #25. Maybe the manuals you are seeing are for the later models? I don't have the paper work here for my #25 and I can't remember if it covered #28, but the manual for my 460 covers quite a few different models ,the only...

    Grand Rapids #28 Grinder-Questions

If it looks different from the 28 jdleach is posting is the long feed handle angled or straight? I have seen some older ones with the handle straight in like the cross feed, if so It may have plain bearings. My ex #25 is just like jdeach's and I believe they are post wwII machines and stayed the...

    WANTED: NOS CENTRIFUGAL SWITCH

All of the examples you show are retailers or utilitys that have fixed pricing. None of them sell used merchandise(whose value is dependent a lot more variables than new) but retailers are very attuned to buyers which ultimately do effect price, of course you're a business owner so you know...

Could your shop make artillery rounds?

The devil is in the details. I was surprised that 52100 was listed one of the steels used/tested. So getting the fracture just right means the right heat treat and material, maybe not all are so machine friendly. I guess the penetrators would be just the opposite from the air burst or surface...

    WANTED: NOS CENTRIFUGAL SWITCH

It's E Bay ! Why get insulted one way or the other. Half the sellers have no clue what they have or look at a catalog price and assume their junk is worth as much. Buyers are mostly just looking for a deal. So making me a low ball offer for what something is worth to you wouldn't insult me i'd...

    WANTED: NOS CENTRIFUGAL SWITCH

If just the contact plate/switch is bad ,there are plenty of them on line. There are a lot of them very similar between different motors. Get the right shaft size. If the centrifugal mechanisim is missing then that would be a little harder to find. Got a picture of what you have?

Would like to Borrow/Rent/Buy a 3/4" square broach.

The easiest way to do it is to simply slot the round bar then weld a filler piece of sq or ret stock in the open side after you insert some sq stock in the slot to keep every thing parallel.I use a .005"shim on top of the sq insert to make sure the hole does not close up during welding.

    Improve Longevity of Worm Gears?

I have bought worms and gears from Boston gear in the past. Seems that they were very reasonable. You might see if they have any thing for you and price it. Just remembered that your size Stock Drive Products might be a better source, they specialise in small gear drives.

Drilling thousands of small holes in HDPE "poly pipe"

I have used form drills on metal never on plastics but as Scruffy says no chips to worry about but would be a lot slower than punching. As for chilling just shoot a CO2 fire extinguisher in it.

    Improve Longevity of Worm Gears?

We used steam cylinder oil that was 600 wt. until every thing now uses synthetic oil like Mobile SCH 680. Have some hand drive small worm gear boxes that are greased but don't believe I have ever seen a motor drive that used grease. Doesn't matter how trick it is grease is just not the right...

Benefits of Hydraulic Power in machine tools

Remember that hydraulics started in the 20's and there wasn't any suitable electrics that were comparable, for multi axis vari/speed drive. One power supply and plumbing to servos and cylinders with speed control and power. I believe Sunstrand was one of the earlier hydraulic pioneer builders...

SEW Gear Drive - Casting Bosses, can I drill these?

We have 3 of them on our offset presses to raise and lower the feed platform. I have had them apart and I think ours are 100 or more to 1 ratio. You can go on line and download a parts manual that has a cut away view. The flange sticking out with the hole is the torque rod mount ,has a rubber...

How to clock "G" (BSPP) threads?

Got to thinking that Festo NPQH fittings are metal with rotatable ends and have G thread option. Most German machines probably have Festo to began with. All of their metal/ plastic 90 deg fittings are rotatable after tightened.

How to clock "G" (BSPP) threads?

A little late but you may be able to find these in BSPP. That is for 1/4" NPT hydraulic Weatherhead which is now Danaher? They don't leak under hydraulic pressure. You might also look at SMC I think they have something for air like that.

Strange Retaining Ring on Motor Shaft - Unable to remove bearing

Me too, have seen a lot of motors that one end was a press fit only no retaining rings, saves .50 cents if not needed!

    Welding connecting rods

John , one of my cousins in Charters Towers had quite a collection of US cars. When ever he came over here he was always looking for parts and such for his collection. One thing I found strange was the 20% import duty on cars as antiques would not have any impact on the car production(which I...

    Welding connecting rods

You never know but some times speed equipment manufacturers can and will be helpful. I'd call one of the rod makers and ask if they know of a rod that is close to what you need, cc length and bore diameters ect. They will have a data base of every rod combo they have ever made. Just be honest...
