Brown & Sharpe No. 2 Universal Light Type

I don't believe I documented the conversion to QC30 anywhere. I did the same to my K&T 2D, but other than some rudimentary sketches, I don't think I really drew much of anything up. On the surface it is a really simple conversion. There are some finer points to work out, as the drive lugs are...

Brown & Sharpe No. 2 Universal Light Type

That he does! Compared to the normal No.2 which I believe clocks in at around 5k, it is "relatively" lighter! I'd remove your email from the public forum, you'll get spammed incessantly.

Swapping out 4th axis on Brother

What! You mean what the salesman told me wasn't true! Shocked.... shocked I tell you! :willy_nilly: Appreciate the finer details on the different versions, and it is good to know, that I WILL be able to get a 4th for my C00 in the future.

Swapping out 4th axis on Brother

For the old ones, yes. If you look at the advertisement, these are for the "outdated" models that are no longer available. I have a S1000X1, the new T200A's are not compatible with the C00 control.

Swapping out 4th axis on Brother

You'd think a salesman who knew I was wanting to buy one would have reached out. :rolleyes5: Definitely don't hesitate if you have the cash. When I priced one a couple months ago, they had one left and one right, and that was all they had in inventory, and wouldn't be getting anymore.

    Economical low cost broaching Solution

I have considered making one, honestly making one from scratch would take more time (cost) than having one made. I know from experience hard milled cutting edges do not cut as well as ground. The issue is really the relief cuts more than anything. I have looked at grinding in the Brother, but...

Brown & Sharpe No. 2 Universal Light Type

$2500 loaded on your trailer. I'd like to get this moved out this Spring. Maybe I should try facebook, that seems to be where people sell used machinery these days? If not, I guess it'll go into storage.

Swapping out 4th axis on Brother

They were $16k a couple months ago

    Economical low cost broaching Solution

They were on my list to contact. The last "low volume" job I had contacted them about they weren't interested in. Or at least... I assumed they were interested by their lack of response! I've seen two different versions, I would call full form and partial form. Full form has relief but for the...

Mamma's don't let yer babies drive forklifts

I started my son on a mini hoe when he was probably 4. Frankly I was shocked how quick he took to it. He sat on my lap and ran it pretty much by himself. We were tearing down my old shop (an 18x20 garage) so what harm could he do? I've got a couple pictures of my daughter running a skid steer...

Transition from low volume to production

Not arguing with you, just trying to understand. To this point, interest is a deductible expense. "Savings" are not. If I make a profit for 5 years, to save, I pay taxes on the profit for 5 years. How can you make money to save without having a profit? Whereas if you buy the machine outright...

Pack Rats & Hoarders what do you save?

Lots of good posts, and this one really sums it up. I really endeavor to keep things, and keep things organized. My wife would 100% tell you I am a hoarder. She will begrudgingly admit I am a somewhat organized hoarder, mostly in an attempt to disguise my hoarding. I've always tried to keep a...

Transition from low volume to production

I'd love to know the answer to this. Or at least a strategy. This year my accountant somehow came up with a $14k profit. There's not a penny to show for it and that's sure not what my P&L shows. Cost me almost $8k by the time it was all said and done. I always enjoy anytime I ask for an...

Transition from low volume to production

Some great advise, a little I don't agree with, but that is personal opinion. We financed the Brother we purchased, at 7% it sucked, but it would have taken years to save the money required to buy it outright with cash. It paid for itself in 5 years, and I am envious of guys like Broke who...

Have you ever met a machinist that was better than you?

I've met a LOT of machinists that were better than me. First and foremost, my grandfather has to be about the best machinist I ever had the pleasure of working for. And he was a pain in the ass. Never satisfied, never happy with what I did or how I did it. Never fast enough. I learned a ton. He...

Pack Rats & Hoarders what do you save?

I'm doing some cleaning prepping to re organize the shop and move some machinery around. I am having a hard time convincing myself I need to save the myriad of "spares" I have saved, but can't bring myself to scrap them. Spare motors, spindles, handles, misc parts, work heads, taper adaptors...

Variation in 1018 steel causing issues with insert drill

Yes, I dont have numbers handy, but 1200 pops in my head for 1018. I saw the blanks, stress relieve for 1 hour at temp, then shut the furnace off and let them cool over night. A lot of heat treat shops will stress relieve material for a relatively nominal cost. My heat treater has a furnace...

    Economical low cost broaching Solution

I have a part I am quoting that has a small through hole, 6mm (.236), that is a D shape. The flat is approximately .025" of the diameter. The depth of the hole is approximately 3/4", and it is a through hole. The flat orients the mating part. 4140 ann, approximately 150 pcs. I plan to drill...

Mamma's don't let yer babies drive forklifts

My absolute favorite amish story involved picking up something with my kids, we drove past an amish farm where a young boy of maybe 10-12 was pushing a reel mower, barefoot, with his younger brother, maybe 6-8, harnessed up like a horse in front pulling it, also barefoot. The kids were...

Variation in 1018 steel causing issues with insert drill

Someone here on the forum posted to the fact that 98% or some ridiculously high number of steel in the US is domestic re-melt with Chinese pellets added in to make the necessary alloy. I have found with a couple of my products it is better to cut and stress relieve the 1018 CRS. I have one that...
