I find that work workers want to run the blade as low as possible, presumable to decrease the exposed amount of blade. However, this sure sets you up for kickback.
If you have a ready need for it, I'd not hesitate to use that for a support machine in a fab shop.
It wouldn't be my first choice, but it'll probably do for now.
Well, ya, that's the jist.
I'd be looking for something like a Mazak Quickturn or an Okuma LB15. They're well supported workhorses that are available well within your budget if you shop around.
Edit- I now see that you're in Oslo. That changes things a bit.
That's going to be miserable.
i think you'll want to do it in at least 2 steps, maybe 3, to help get a handle on the required forces.
Anyway you can get it at least into a drill press?
Thanks! I'll reach out when the time comes.
Gages aren't terribly pricey- https://detercoonline.com/product/2-3-8-eut-external-upset-tubing-work-ring-gauge/
You are just the man I was hoping to hear from. Thank you.
Yes, will be using a full form insert for this work.
I wish I had more details on the part, haven't seen the drawing yet.
Looks like I'll be running some API 8rd in 2-3/8" and 2-7/8" flavor. The part is some widget that goes on the end of the string, not really sure what it does but it doesn't carry much load. OAL is 8-12", material is 4140ph using a Tool Flo on-edge insert. Machine is a QT15/T32.
Does this...
World record bollard pull from a tug, that I can easily find, is 477t. While that is a lot of oomph, it's still not much compared to a 100,000t vessel in motion.
