I did the same job on a similar Bosch planer. There´s no cotter involved so you´ll have to heat up the pulley. That´s what I did in my planer, it worked, it´s still working after several years. You´ll have to pull out the ball bearing in the motor rotor; since you are at it change both bearings.
Good thinking!! saves me a lot of aggravation.
I made the dial indicator holders according to what the article in Fine Wood Working suggested.
As I said before, it´s a very old machine, heavily used, and don´t know wether I should make the head parallel to the table or make the knives parallel...
The rolls in this machine cannot be adjusted in height (other than by shimming) but you can adjust how much the blades protrude with respect to the cutterhead, so adjusting the blades is (probably) the way to do it.
However, that 1/8" will disappear once the machine is operating, you'll remove...
You are right about the serrations in the feed roll, I have to improve those; sort of like sharpening a hand saw, you start by making all the teeth the same height.
I have a Bridgeport, I'll try to make new teeth in it and then turn the outfeed roll to whatever diameter I end up with.
I’m happy to post pictures of the thicknesser I’m trying to rebuild. Unfortunately the machine is stilll disassembled. It was made in Milano, Italy maybe 70 years ago by Edoardo Origgia. Everything is cast iron or 1214 steel which makes it VERY heavy. It was originally a combination machine, all...
Thanks again for your reply. There's no chipbreaker I can see in my machine, but there is one in the FWW article I mentioned before; should there be one present?
How do you adjust spring tensión of feed and pressure rollers in a thicknesser? I cannot measure that tension, but need a ballpark way to set it.
I'm rebuilding an old 40cm (16in.) italian machine.
There are two idle rollers in the table underneath the feed and pressure rollers.
I found...
I also work wood and metal in my 6' by 7' shop and the floor is 3/4" x 3' x 4' plywood with 3 coats of colorless floor finish, laid on concrete. The floor was installed 8 years ago and affixed with SS screws and 8mm plastic plugs inserted in the concrete, doesn't have to be 3/4" thick, 1/2"...

Years ago I rebuilt a '47Jeep gearbox and had a similar problem with one of the bearings involved; a local job shop cut a groove for the circlip in the outer track.
6204 ( 20 x 47 x 14) is quite similar, 88504 is 20 x 47 x 17.75 same OD, same ID, different thickness (smaller thickness in 6204) so you´ll have to make some washers.
Happy Birthday Forrest!.
I'll be 81 next month so I know what you are talking about.
Years ago you contributed to P.M. a procedure for leveling a lathe, I used it on my chinese lathe and I keep a copy in my Word files; good thinking, good writing skills, generous about your knowledge; have you...
A company named WEG is active in the present day, in Brazil at least, making very good electrical motors of all kinds and sizes and selling them all over the world.
Cannot tell if it is the same WEG.
"Made in Germany" would indicate something made before WW2 which is supported by the plate...
You'll need two sets, one for plastics and brass, the other one for steel and aluminium; the one for plastics and brass will have the cutting edges flattened f.i. with a slipstone or ground in a wheel. Unless you are doing a lot of different size holes don't buy the set in 32nds, individual...
