    Sequence of operations

Guess I'm missing something. Stop is inside the spindle which will prevent me from drilling thru.

    Sequence of operations

Qty=200, Lathe ie: Spindle stop If I face the other end to length against the spindle stop I won't be able to drill thru. I'll probably use a collet and hand tighten for part 2 as it's faster than tightening the chuck each time.

    Sequence of operations

I have some DOM tubing pieces 6' long 1/2"x .065" wall thickness that I need to drill out to .378 and cut to 2". I can think of 2 options: 1. Cut it all into approx 2.030 lengths, drill, face, debur all pieces on on end as first batch then for the 2nd batch, flip, setup a spindle stop for 2"...

Securing a threaded on chuck for reverse rotation

I don't understand how that collar works. Does it actual apply enough force to clamp the backplate to the spindle? The backplate seems too thick to allow the clamp to compress it.

    9A. 10k QCQB tumbler disassembly

I found pin 27 on one side with a bright LED and 10x magnifier. It's virtually invisible on the other side. Pretty sure they are straight pins.

    9A. 10k QCQB tumbler disassembly

Looking for info on how to disassemble/reassemble the spring loaded knob (#28) to replace a broken pin that no longer properly engages in the QCGB casting holes. I see a pin (#27,31) in the parts diagram but no idea how to remove it. It only came as a subassembly so maybe removal will have to...

Hardinge lathe front set screw dial locking design

It's a DIAL lock not a cross slide lock. Most dials are locked via a thumb screw on top that radially applies friction to the crossfeed shaft. This interferes with readability of the graduations which is why I want it on the front of the dial mechanism. I did see a video of one but cannot find...

Hardinge lathe front set screw dial locking design

Does anyone have a diagram or video showing the details of the front locking assembly to zero and lock the crossfeed dial? (as opposed to the common set screw on the face of the dial).

Need Bull Gear for SB 10L (Large Spindle)

Repaired mine with 7 broken teeth 10 years ago, still good as new. Simply, tap 2-3 holes for each tooth, make a screw with broad top, loctite in and machine the tooth to shape with an angle grinder. https://i.imgur.com/iYT1f2e.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uwD1py2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/d8KSS7n.jpg

What have you made FOR your South Bend?

Added variable power feed to my 9A from treadmill motor and controller. Disconnected the gear train and reversing tumbler and the lathe is whisper quiet. Large pulley made of plywood, 9" OD, small one is 1". Nice bonus is ability to reverse feed on the fly.

Metric gear setup on SB 10k

All you need to do to cut within .06% or 1.5009mm is to replace the stock 20t stud gear with a 26t gear and set your gearbox to B4, no transposing set needed.

    Hydraulic jack seal repair

As you can see, the leather cup on this pump shaft has separated and partially dissolved. Can this be repaired with an o-ring inserted into the slot on the lower part of the shaft or do I need a cup shaped seal? It appears that the entire lower part was enclosed with a leather cup which also...
