I have some DOM tubing pieces 6' long 1/2"x .065" wall thickness that I need to drill out to .378 and cut to 2". I can think of 2 options:
1. Cut it all into approx 2.030 lengths, drill, face, debur all pieces on on end as first batch then for the 2nd batch, flip, setup a spindle stop for 2"...
Looking for info on how to disassemble/reassemble the spring loaded knob (#28) to replace a broken pin that no longer properly engages in the QCGB casting holes. I see a pin (#27,31) in the parts diagram but no idea how to remove it.
It only came as a subassembly so maybe removal will have to...
Does anyone have a diagram or video showing the details of the front locking assembly to zero and lock the crossfeed dial? (as opposed to the common set screw on the face of the dial).
As you can see, the leather cup on this pump shaft has separated and partially dissolved. Can this be repaired with an o-ring inserted into the slot on the lower part of the shaft or do I need a cup shaped seal? It appears that the entire lower part was enclosed with a leather cup which also...
Could someone identify this, all I have is this picture. Seller knows nothing about it, There is no tailstock. Maybe it was a turret style originally? The cross slide handle, dial also appears to be missing.
He's only asking $400
I've been dealing with over .003" taper in the last 1" near the chuck for years and after reading about sled based grinders and planers decided to give it a shot. I had an average of .005 wear and a small ridge extending +12" from the chuck. For the last 1" of travel, the left end of the saddle...
10K spindle have a .844 to .867 thru-hole and are interchangeable with the 9" spindle, therefore, is there any reason one could not bore out their .750 9" spindle to the 10K size?
Found this rare McDougall Canadian 12" lathe on CL, seller wants an offer - I'm thinking approx $1,000. He won't be back for a week and doesn't know much about it.
Anyone know the spindle bore size on these? Any other info appreciated.

Anyone know the diameter of these dials? I am trying to reproduce them. Appears to be at least 2.5" with the spacing between graduations.
What is that tall round holder by the tailstock for? Auction is up to 900 - may be worth it with the milling and rest attachments if the bed is in good shape.
Were those beds hardened back then?

I think this is a 13" model 32 or 34 circa 1924 based on a serial # of 27798.
Anyone know which model it is and if it has power crossfeed and what is that
smaller star knob near the 1/2 nut lever for?
I had a look at it today, lots of issues but may be...
I got a free 1/4" x 1" x 6" cobalt cleveland blade but I think it's too big for my south bend 9 for parting mild steel. I would like to be able to use it so I am thinking of grinding the end down. What width and taper would you suggest?
My clutch has been requiring increasing torque to keep it engaged so I disassembled it. I think there are a few wear areas contributing to the problem.
1. The outside of the shoes are showing some wear but feel very smooth in the direction of rotation. Maybe some roughing up will make them...
I need a 1/2 hole in a 5/8 OD 2" long piece of steel so I center drilled it then drilled a 5/16 hole with no issues. When I try to finish with the 1/2 drill bit, it just squeals and overheats after less than 1/8" deep, no long curly chips. Also tried a 31/64 bit with same result. Both bits are...
How much oil loss is normal for these? I was getting 2-3 drops down BOTH sides of the headstock per hour of run time. Now, only the small end leaks any oil and the resevoir on the large end stays full. Wicks are in ok shape and fully soaked with oil. I have removed the spindle several times and...
