Sharp TMV-1 With Anilam 3-Axis CNC Conversion

I have for sale a 2008 Sharp TMV-1 mill with Anilam 3000M 3-axis CNC retrofit. This is a high quality BEEFY machine (think Bridgeport on steroids). I've had this machine for a few years and have used it very little. Prior to that it was in a job shop environment and saw limited use. The ways are...

    Phase Converter Buzzing

I'll give it a shot. Is it likely high voltage on one leg is causing the buzzing problem I'm experiencing?

    Phase Converter Buzzing

I've just finished putting together a 10HP phase converter using an American Rotary panel and a self supplied idler motor. The idler motor is making a buzzing noise when there's no load on the circuit. As soon as I apply a load it goes away. See the video in the link below...

    Amplifier Replacement Options

I tried to have the drive repaired by a company called Nyco Systems. I found out after the repair was attempted that this "company" is really a guy doing repairs out of his house. When he finally returned the drive a month and a half later I hooked it up and it immediately blew a fuse upstream...

    Amplifier Replacement Options

Thanks, mmurray. The link is definitely correct. It matches the P/N on my drives. I did some reading on Kflop. It looks like something that would be right up my alley. Unfortunately my goal right now is to get this thing running ASAP. It looks like Kflop would be a steep learning curve. Long...

    Amplifier Replacement Options

This is exactly my concern, and why I'm hoping I can find a replacement that's more readily available. Even if I have to spend some time figuring out an acceptable replacement and getting it dialed in it may pay dividends when another one inevitably goes out. Say I did want to go this route...

    Amplifier Replacement Options

I just picked up a Sharp TMV-1 with an Anilam CNC retrofit. One of the three amplifiers is dead - I just got the news today that it's beyond economical repair. I can get a refurbished one (these drives are no longer produced) but it's ~$1,800. This is a garage/hobby machine so I'm trying to save...

    "Cheap" Tool Holders

My local tooling rep recommended Dorian holders a few days ago. At ~$65/holder they're very affordable and likely a step up in quality from Shars. I've used their lathe tooling extensively and have been happy with it. https://www.doriantool.com/wp-content/uploads/Milling-Accessories-Promo-Flier.pdf

    "Cheap" Tool Holders

I'd love to give Meritool a try. Unfortunately they're 30-40% more expensive and I just don't think I'll see any performance increase at 5k RPM that would justify the premium. Maybe I'll see if I can convince the boss at work to pick a few up.

    "Cheap" Tool Holders

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've always been of the opinion that you get what you pay for with very few exceptions. For the price difference I figured it would be worth asking if this was one of the exceptions. I think for my application Shars will be a good compromise between price and...

    "Cheap" Tool Holders

I fully expect to get roasted for asking this, but what has everyone's experience been with "cheap Chinese" tool holders? I have a Sharp TMV-1 CNC knee mill I'm about to buy tool holders for. It has a 5000 RPM NMTB40 spindle. I plan on getting a longer drawbar so I can use CAT40 holders. This...

    RPC Panel -- Which manufacturer?

Just got a quote from them. ~$400 + shipping. Also looking at North American Phase Converters, Phoenix Phase Converters, American Rotary, and Phase Converter USA. Does anyone have any experience with any of these?

    RPC Panel -- Which manufacturer?

I'm in the process of getting a CNC knee mill up and running and I'm in need of a RPC. I just picked up a used 10hp 3ph motor to use as an idler and need to buy a RPC Panel to compliment it. Is there a consensus on who is the best manufacturer of phase converters/panels? I realize they're...

Where to Source RPC Idler Motor

Thanks everyone. This gets me pointed in the right direction. I wasn't finding much on Craigslist and didn't want to pay shipping which is why I created the thread. Sounds like motor rewind shops are a good source. I think I'll start there.

Where to Source RPC Idler Motor

I have a new (to me) CNC knee mill that I'll be moving into my garage next week and I'm starting to think about how to power it. I think I've landed on buying an RPC control panel and adding my own 10HP 17xx RPM idler motor. I'm sure used 3ph motors can be had for dirt cheap but I'm not sure...

Advice on Purchasing/Repairing a CNC Bridgeport - Is it worth it?

This is correct. Maybe using "Bridgeport" in the title was misleading. At 3500#s it's a beefy knee mill. The 40 taper is a huge plus. it doesn't have an ATC but can hold 20+ tool offsets and has a power drawbar, so no messing with R8 collets, touching off tools at every tool change, etc. I'm...

Advice on Purchasing/Repairing a CNC Bridgeport - Is it worth it?

To answer a few of the questions/concerns above: -I ran this machine several years ago when it was in working order so I'm familiar with the control. -I'll look at the messages again after work today but it's something along the lines of "servos not on". The message persists after resetting...

Good suggestion. Submitted a RFQ to them and Mach. Thanks.

Advice on Purchasing/Repairing a CNC Bridgeport - Is it worth it?

This seems low to me, but maybe I'm way off. I've always had in my head 3-5k for a good condition manual Bridgeport, 5-10k for cnc. I have a personal tooling account I've accrued over several years with the company which I can use towards the purchase, so this will bring the price to $1000 out...
