    Haas DC-1 thoughts

Are the prices for extra's such as spindle upgrades and HSM realistic or just list pricing that is often heavily discounted to get the sale? - Or do Haas not work that way in the USA - most other machine vendors I have purchased from do exactly this, your 40k of extras is magically discounted to...

Looks like some of the Chinese stuff have fanuc controls.

    Haas DC-1 thoughts

Looks like they build them for <15k retail in China, wasn't the mini-mill sub 40 retail too, so must be built for <30k, no? At some point (maybe already?) China will make a basic CNC mill for half the price of competing products that will have pretty much the same functionality, like it or not...

    Haas DC-1 thoughts

For our work (all aluminium small parts, nothing with super tight tolerances) I could see us replacing one of our old mills with two of these at this price - I wouldn't expect Robo/Speedio results but can definitely see a place for them in the right circumstances, though I do remember a base...

    Brother Speedio tool fretting

Easiest way to put this to rest? - Just buy a couple of Big kaiser holders and put them to use, see what you get, I am inclined to think the issue is not with the holder though like others but..... We did decide to go for 'real' Big holders for roughing tools and face mill in our Robodrill and...

    DN Solutions SVM 4100

What does a base SVM come with - Is a swarf conveyor / auger and TSC optional? Its a machine I would be looking at to replace an ageing VMC we have but would want the above and control options to be able to handle some 3d machining. This would go up against us getting another long bed...

BEST METHOD for cleaning coolant-machined Al parts for blasting and anodization??

I didn’t think about the process impregnating grease etc into the surface, I would have expected anything like that to be removed in the degrease / etch pre anodise. I can’t imagine many contract blasters will be so detailed if they operate like many anodisers I have dealt with. If you are...

BEST METHOD for cleaning coolant-machined Al parts for blasting and anodization??

I am sure I am missing something, but if you are bead blasting what is the worry about light surface staining? We leave our 6061 machined aluminium parts for weeks to months sometimes without cleaning out of the machine, once they are bright dipped and anodised there are no marks to be seen on...

    Slit spacer - 6061 al - sub spindle / y axis lathe?

Thanks for the reply - our parts are much more simple and round so no need to align the slot. Nice work and example - I wish we had live tooling on our lathe, we are more of a mill shop so only got one 2 axis….

    Slit spacer - 6061 al - sub spindle / y axis lathe?

Thanks for the info - really helpful, will get onto the machine supplier about part transfer loading as that’s not something that had crossed my mind. The parts are a real pain in terms of mill second operating for slitting and manual finishing - labour isn’t cheap and it’s tedious work but a...

    Slit spacer - 6061 al - sub spindle / y axis lathe?

The mandrel inside of the chuck is something I have heard of - will look into that, I assume it’s not off the shelf solution, I’ll ask the apps guys at the machine dealer too. De-burring is currently half the battle with these, we do chamfer from the back to reduce the size but it’s still there...

    Slit spacer - 6061 al - sub spindle / y axis lathe?

Hoping to get some input on making this simple part - weighing up a dual spindle / y axis lathe at this point - So we are getting more frequent and larger qty orders for a simple 6061 al cylindrical spacer approx 10mm tall (has some external features like a chamfer and OD groove) - The spacer...

    High Speed vs High Torque

Had our 24k Robodrill for a while now and very happy with it for the all aluminium work we are doing, everything sub 10mm tool stuff - Cycle time is reduced by over half compared to our 10k machines (not robo's) Getting into the inevitable Speedio V Robodrill argument - we probably would have...

    Damaged BT30 spindle. grrr

We were advised to go for big kaiser or nikken by Fanuc for our robo, they didnÂ’t seem at all concerned about pullstud issues when I asked - in the UK I think most go for the above with no real quality alternative outside of shipping in from USA etc and the big kaiser weren’t expensive at all.

Roller Wrench Collet Nuts - Interchangeable Between Brands?

Looking to save some money’s and make an effort to do a ‘proper’ job of things - Any reason why a roller wrench made to suit a 30mm collet nut for brand A wouldn’t fit tool holder brand B’s 30mm collet nut too? Reason being we have a removable head torque wrench and want to use roller heads...

Favourite insert for best finish parting aluminium?

Fairly new to lathe work at our shop and currently using a Kyocera GMM3020-MT - zero radius insert for parting off in a standard 2 axis lathe - 6082/6061 aluminium. Most parts we make have no requirement for surface finish on the parted side but we have some work that needs to be as good as...

    24k Fanuc Robodrill & Tooling.

Fully understand that as Frank and our supplier has noted - I just wondered if his last comment about not using dual contact was for reasons other than stuck chips.

    24k Fanuc Robodrill & Tooling.

Spoken to the machine provider and they did mention this as a possiblity but not inevitability but as number of tools required isnt huge I will just stick to dual contact. Is that a typo about using no dual contact (I assume you meant dont use any non-dual?)

    24k Fanuc Robodrill & Tooling.

I will get a list of sizes we need together and be in touch in the near future, including pull studs after a few of the horror stories I have heard with BT30 stud failure. Any current robo users care to chime in from experience?

    24k Fanuc Robodrill & Tooling.

Will look into this - like you I wanted to use the dual contact for the same type of tools. Will look into delivery from Mari into the UK, I know they are well liked / have a great rep and the price looks good.
