How to best code Brother synchronized tapping?

So I delved into this with one of our senior apps engineers to figure out exactly how the tapping time constant M codes work. First though - time constants are a set of parameters that basically tell the machine how fast various things can go. In engineering/physics, the time constant tau (τ)...

How to best code Brother synchronized tapping?

The default is the M250, the acc/dec for full speed (6000 RPM) tapping. Frankly, I ran a Speedio for years without ever touching (or frankly, even knowing what the function was) of the M24X series of codes. Essentially, these control how fast the spindle slows, stops, and reverses at the bottom...

Easily grind on a CNC using electroplated wheels

I did neglect to mention that pretty much everyone grinding in our machines has bag and/or cartridge filters, but only down to 10 microns. Not huge success finding coolants that can filter down beyond that without stripping, though options are out there. Everyone seems happy at 10 and nobody...

Easily grind on a CNC using electroplated wheels

People have been afraid of grinding in standard CNC mills for years, but AB Tools sort of opened the path for a bunch of folks to start doing it once they demonstrated that many of their tools are ground in standard Haas (!) VMCs with no real ill effects over time. There are about half a dozen...

    Fadal 3016 or robodrill t10c

Robodrills of earlier vintages are superior to Brothers of equal vintage, up until about the S2Dn series which was when Brother stopped being "Drill/Tap" centers and started building real compact machining centers. Sure, lots of garage/hobby guys messing around with them, but in all these cases...

Robodroll... But under what circumstances are "$10k or less price range" and "Most of my work will be in the aerospace and defense industries" ever truly compatible?

    3d probing on machine

I've worked with both Blum and Renishaw on these sort of applications, but definitely more time with the Blum team. Of course, my talks with them are specific to the Speedio, but the gist of it is: 1- You need probe hardware capable of hitting at off-angles. Blum is happy to do this with their...

Swapping out 4th axis on Brother

To clarify a bit. There are basically 3 models of table from Brother (each available in Left and Right configurations): T200- Brother launched the T200 as their factory 4th axis table in 2018. T200A - Within a couple of years, Brother made substantial hardware changes to the T200; larger...

DWO/ TCPC upgrade on 4th Axis Haas VF2 and VF4SS

Couple of instances where DWO/G54.2 are exceptionally handy on a 4th axis: 1- I do a lot of multi-part fixtures on my 4th axis. Fabricating these off the centerline is a terrible idea for longevity because all of that work is basically locked-down to the configuration it was originally made in...

Brother Speedio drill program acting differently/wrong

User Parameters Switch 1 #0172 Interpolation Switch to Type 1 or Type 2 and the machine will interpolate rapids. It will not interpolate rapids on the G100 tool change though (those will always dogleg because of the axis decomposition where the XY moves get executed before Z).

Brother Speedio drill program acting differently/wrong

Why? Just spit the whole program out in CAM and be done with it. This isn't the days of 256kb of memory; what is the gain in adding sub program complexity to anything? How is it killing drills? Not retracting out of the hole before moving in XY towards the next one? Or drilling too deep? I...

One and done, vs 2 ops

What kind of arrangement do you have with this other shop? You do programming/setup for them regularly? Just a weird circumstance that they would loose an outsider on their capital assets for a low-volume job.

One and done, vs 2 ops

To have a valuable discussion about this, the key factor is what kind of environment are we working in here? Are you a job shop (or aspiring job shop)? Garage guy with a machine kicking around looking to help out a friend? Or is this a small business looking to regularly produce a moderate...

"Win the Lottery" Home Garage Machine(s)?

No, but I haven't seen a pull-stud snap due to a crash in years now. Everyone also has upgraded to higher strength studs (Maritool, J&M, etc). Drawbar force has less to do with retaining tools under crash conditions, and more about rigidity.

"Win the Lottery" Home Garage Machine(s)?

The Xd2 machines, and the M300 - have significantly higher drawbar force than previous machines. Brother doesn’t give a figure, but the docs call out a 40% increase. That also upped the pull stud retention balls to 6 (from 5). From what I have seen, that puts Big+ Brothers at about 900lb of...

"Win the Lottery" Home Garage Machine(s)?

Nope. BT30 is a really solid all-around performer. It has more rigidity than comparably sized HSK, it performs well at the maximum RPMs a mass-scale production machine spindle will ever be asked to run, the tooling is readily available across the world at reasonable prices, and the flange is...

"Win the Lottery" Home Garage Machine(s)?

Being in Portland, I know a couple of the craft brew brand guys. As rough as manufacturing is to be in, I think the only worst industry to step into would be restaurants/food. The craft brew guys are cooler, and hipper, and fitter compared to us here in Mordor making stuff, but they have (in my...
