Has anyone else noticed a sharp increase in raw material quality problems since COVID? We’ve gotten custom square tubing that isnt the right size, 1.5” x 3.00” 4140 bars with cracks going down the center along the entire length, 3/8” X 4” flat HR 1044 that has delaminated like Oreos, etc. I...
Also make sure you are not facing off much more than the radius of the insert, especially on those skinny 35 degree tools. That can trash the edge quick!
What are the RPM’s and what insert(s) are you using? A smaller nose radius would be better because it would put less pressure on the part and thusly less likely to cause the chatter you are seeing.
Thanks for the info, everyone! The mist is largely from TSC applications. The guys have fans outside the machines to try to blow the cloud(s) away from their face but it kind of just pushes it around the shop. I primarily want to simply improve the working conditions (and I can't imagine...
Hi Everyone,
We have four Speedios that often poof out a cloud of mist upon opening the door, so I am looking at mist collectors. Yamazen suggested either an Amino MZ-15 or MJ-10. They said the cost is about the same for both but the MJ-10 is filterless. Does anyone have any recommendations...
Are they solenoid-activated? If so, can you manually fire the solenoid to see if the collets close? (There is often a little button on solenoids to manually activate.)
Is it still alarming out, though? What is the exact alarm? When watching mine on loop I noticed it would sometimes “coast” to position and sometimes it would “bounce back” to position. It sure looked jerky, but I think that is the machine taking the shortest path to the programmed position…so...
Is the taper witnessed on a part or jogging with an indicator? If it is on a part the change in diameter along the length will vary with different size parts, toolpaths, etc. Good luck!
not really...when diagnosing the problem (over years of gnashing of teeth!) the C-axis load would spike along with the position error, sporadically causing the excess (stop) alarm. It would only be on the FIRST indexing move...following indexes never had any spikes or corresponding alarms. We...
hmmm, mine's an R2A. Hopefully Frank or Andy will hop on. I can say that Yamazen in my area (Chicago) has been outstanding at servicing even old machines. Good luck!
Holy f-ing shit! Are you getting a c-access excess (stop) alarm!?!?!?!? I spent way too much of my life fighting with an MTB and Fanuc trying to figure out what was going on and in the end changing the first indexing move from G0C0.0 to G28H0.0 totally solved the problem. Good luck!
I’m in the hand tool biz and the crappy copies are often so bright and shiny that it is almost a red flag if you see a wrench or whatever that is too bright and shiny haha.
You can totally stop, probe, update offset if needed, and rerun tool path if needed on a Speedio. I used a little conditional branching action when determining if rework is needed. Good luck!
