Basicaly the lathe itself is pretty simple. It has a big mains cable going...
Just a quick one for some swift advice.
I was of the belief that testing voltages on a pcb when checking DC voltages you test to ground? that being the ground of the case where all the other green/yelow wires are bolted to.
Problem is im not showing any voltages on a particular plasma cutter pcb...
doing everything other than arcing.. new tips, done nothing. so i opened torch and noticed their isnt and continuity between switch wires, brown and white. the brown seems fine from machine to torch. the switch is fine.
What is confusing me is? Is there supposed to be something within the tip...
So im on the hunt for a suitable transformer that i can use to wind my own step up transformer for a 240v single to 415v 3 phase converter system that will be used within the home workshop where we havent a dedicated 3 phase supply.
So im looking on the usual sources for a transformer and i find...
could you pls help me.. ive bought a steam cleaner at auction with a warnin sticker stating "Tripping breaker when plugged in" lso ive noticed on the 240v single phase motor that its got so hot at some point it metled the capacitor somewhat..
So I strippedout the motor to do some troubleshooting...
can anyone help me wire up this motor? non of the wires are connected. ive included a rough sketch of what I have. basically two pairs of winding wires with two pairs of continuity and one set shows 10.3ohms resistance and the other 3.3ohms.
Their is also the capacitor, plus the centri switch...
Got a murex autolynx 160mk2 and it isn't welding right. at first thought it may be capacitors, of which it has two big 250000 oil filled electrolytics. well ive actually tested the caps tonight and with multimeter set to 2000 ohms the caps, both of them respond like I was advised they would if...
ive got two bad caps in an Autoynx mk2 mig. their big boys the both of em' oil filled electrolytics at 250000uf. off the shelf new these will set me back over £120 each and I cant justify this. I figured my options are as follows and im looking for some response to each option from those in the...

IVE gOT TWO WELDERS AT AUCTION!!! cheap too...
but the autolynx seems to be low on power and I can only presume its generating low amperage as the dc output, yet still a little low 32vdc on top setting 160amp 240v, should be 40vdc at tip if it were brand new outa the box. compared to another...
IVE GOT A NUMIG 165, onn settings 1,2 and 5 I get the correct DC voltage at the tip judging by my multimeter. but on settings 3,4 and 6 I only get 3v. I honestly don't think its the switch as ive repaired others with dodgy switches in the past and they either break connection on work and that's...

I had recently aquired this DSG 13z or 13x30. I have wanted one of these for some time as this company has a great great history going back to the early 1800's. If you look at the LATHES website you will see that this company spared no expense to have the finest and most respectful environment...
I have today removed my chippy motor and variator from the lathe. I did this because I needed access to the electric motor to check its specs to see if it can be modified to include a Fwd/Rev switch.. Anyway I had to remove the huge variator first and I am considering overhauling it whilst its...
I would really like the use of a reverse on my single phase Colchester Lathe. Right now it only has one direction (anti-clockwise). Can I add one of these switches or something similar and would this give me a reverse. Effectively giving me a motor that would run in either direction?
It states...
