RPM slow to ramp up on a Monarch series 61

If i remember correctly ( rare ) , the guy made it look harder than it was. The clutch is very easy to work on. The springs are wider on one end so they stay in place. Dave

    The Hunt: 1957 Series 61 16x54

I run my 700 rpm 60 on a vfd for some speed adjustment and find I seldom need to shift once I pick the range needed. I run at 1000 rpm a lot and can run to 1200 but I only do it sparingly as it is really at the top end of the drive chain and clutch range. I've never needed anything higher...

RPM slow to ramp up on a Monarch series 61

The " always sunny in the shop " guy also did a video. the clutch is pretty easy to access and adjust. It doesn't take much movement to tighten it up if that is the problem. If the clutch lever feels light and slips into place very easily, that can be an indication that the disks need...

    Flat Belt Replacement

Does anyone know what type of flat belt Monarch used for their feeds? My 1951 CVA belt was continuous with no discernable seam but I don't know if it was original. CVA also went to a continuous flat belt for their drive train for some period. I have pulleys for both flat and V but used the V...

    Flat Belt Replacement

The flat belts were to minimize vibration transferring to the spindle. Monarch even went to flat belts for the main drive, at least for a time. I wonder if the ribbed belts introduce some slight level of vibration into the finish, or would have when the machines were new and dialed in to spec...

    Flat Belt Replacement

My CVA used a 32" belt which must be a standard size as McMaster had them for immediate delivery. Dave

    Rivett 1020S Restoration

Looks better than what it likely looked from the factory. Beautiful work and nice to see a Rivett with the drive system complete. When you get it running. a comparison with your 10ee will be good to hear about. Dave

    How to measure spindle runout

.0001 is double the Hardinge spec ( .000025 for their super precision machines ). Not that is really matters but it would be interesting to know the real Monarch number as Monarch wasn't known to trail the competition. Dave

    How to measure spindle runout

I thought Monarch spec'd the 10ee at .00004 for their regular machines and .00003 for the precision ones. Dave

1957 Model 61, help needed diagnosing quick change gearbox

If the machine looks good, I'd not worry about the fix. Dave

    Marketplace Monarch paint job fail

It is still a toolroom 61 so it might be a good machine. The problem is buyers must pay more for new ugly paint as most dealers seem to do that. I tell them I pay less for new paint but I must be a cult of one. Dave

Feedback requested in a Schaublin 160 for sale.

I've been down the rabbit hole or building a 240-600v transformer to run a lathe only to find the multispeed motor only worked partially. That lathe may be a good project for someone who knows electrics and can replace the motor with a vfd, assuming the variator works. There is a thread here...

10 EE Gearbox and New Motor Adapter Plate

Most VFDs will allow single phase input whether rated single phase or not. If you have 30-40 amps single phase input the VFD will be fine due to soft start. You probably want to program the VFD to limit the amp draw anyway as you don't need or want 10 hp flowing through the drive train at 60...

    yates american table saw

The Oliver 260 design had several problems so care is needed when looking at one. The tilt trunnions tend to be weak ( unusual for Oliver ) so damage can occur if the saw was tilted a lot or rotated when titled. The rotation was by a worm gear that tended to gum up with sawdust resulting in...

What is the correct oil to use in an old motor like this?

If motor is a 900 rpm, I'd put a #68 r and O. It doesn't spin very fast so not as critical as most applications. Dave

    Rivett 1020S for Sale

Finding one with the Reeves drive in good working condition is more rare though. Tailstock4 here has done a restoration on both Rivett and 10ee and has interesting opinions . Dave

    Cincinnati 10 inch dividing head

Look at the bore diameter and if there is any info on the plate. The availability of additional plates is what is important unless connecting it to a specific machine shaft for spiral gears using a lead attachment. The bore and bolt pattern will help give a clue as to brand. Dave

Can "Moore Jig Borer Model #3" surface grind flat surfaces?

Since this has gotten weird and the OP seems set on a Moore Jig Grinder, maybe there should be advice as to how to judge an old Moore. I have a Moore jig Borer and there are at least a million things that can go out of spec, massively preloaded bearings, Reeves Drive and how it delivers power...
