    Schaublin 135 Evaluation

Thanks @marcsO, I'm a bit wary of seeing how much a full set will cost, but all in good time. It looks like I have a deal to buy the lathe, I should have it home sometime next week. I'll start a new thread then, once I've had a chance to get it situated. Originally the lathe was going to be...

    Schaublin 135 Evaluation

@marcsO I suspect you're right about the table lock, the photos I took clearly show it partially engaged. I'm sure some internal cleaning is necessary too. I'm not that worried about the electrical side of this machine, I've done a number of conversions/re-wires before. I'll post about that...

    Schaublin 135 Evaluation

Thanks @marcsO, I appreciate it. The machine was not under power when I saw it, but everything looked pretty good. There's obviously an oil leak with the variator, but I'm sure I can figure that out. The motor is two speed 600 V, which I'll have to see about rewinding. I expect that the cost of...

    Schaublin 135 Evaluation

Thanks @avivz I'll report back, but it looks like the normal top slide, no steady/follow rest. I know the electronics work, though that's largely irrelevant to me as 600 V/3 ph is impractical in my home shop.

    Schaublin 135 Evaluation

Hi everyone, I'm going to be looking at a 1970's era 135 for sale a couple hours away. There doesn't look to be many accessories (ie. no collet closer or star wheel tailstock). Is there anything specific I should be looking for, other than the usual checks you might do when considering a used...

    Schaublin 150 sold

@Degull I don't think any of us won that machine - I was just expressing my frustration. I'm sure if you ever want to sell yours, there will be a lineup. Are you running yours at 600 V, or did you do a 240 V single or three phase conversion?

    Schaublin 150 sold

I spoke to both the purchasing officer and the site contact, and it sounds like nobody did. I wouldn't have thought retrofitting a new motor onto the rapid feed box would be that complicated. I was more concerned about the electric oil pump, and whether the brake assembly could reasonably be...

    Schaublin 150 sold

I was bidding on this one, it went past what I could reasonable afford though. Too bad, in that it was quite close to me. As far as I can tell, the Canadian Forces have sold four of these Schaublin 150's - one in Vancouver a long while ago, one in Montreal two years ago, one in Trenton (17k...

Brown and Sharpe 510 Grinder Lubrication System

@michiganbuck Thanks, that was my suspicion as well. I had a look at the materials the push in connectors are made from, and all should be fine with mineral oil. I'm tempted to just go for it due to the ease of implementation. Given this is only a fraction of the rated 150+ PSI, I'm doubting...

Brown and Sharpe 510 Grinder Lubrication System

Hi everyone, I could use some advice about the replacement of the lube system on my new-to-me surface grinder. I had originally wanted to get this up and running ASAP, but realized that the gibs were out of adjustment and subsequently that the lubrication system was pretty damaged (broken lines...

    Texas 4 - The 2018 Advanced/Basic Scraping Class

Rich, Vermont would work well for me. I'll be in touch closer to the time.

    Texas 4 - The 2018 Advanced/Basic Scraping Class

I'd like to attend, though I think that the distance is too far to make it work. Are these classes ever held in the north-eastern US?

Dake vs Ellis vs JET drill presses

Were I in the market, I would definitely be looking at the models with a power downfeed. It doesn't sound like the tech you spoke to was very familiar with the operation of a VFD. There is a loss of efficiency in the conversion, but this just results in a slightly higher electrical load...

    My little (home) shop

Moving a machine youself is always a saga. A while ago, I bought a Harrison L5a at auction (1800 lbs). I moved it, not knowing the first thing about rigging. I have more that a few stories about that adventure. Sounds like every mill I've ever seen for sale. I've never understood the general...

    My little (home) shop

I'm jealous - I'd love to have a CNC mill in my garage. Were you able to see it running? An aquantance of mine is fixing up slightly newer fadal and it is talking him a while to find what he needs (up here in Canada anyway).
