I retired last year. But there is a new synthetic media that I tried called SM. Wow did I like it on aluminum. Ask them to run a sample for you in it. Small size for best/shiny finish. It gave me the best one step finish on aluminum.
I didn't know that I needed change gears to do metric threads on my Servoshift but it appears that I do. I didn't get any with the machine. My machine is a inch/metric machine. About a 1990 model. I've gone thru my manual and there are still a few things that confuse me on the set up for metric...
I didn't know that I needed change gears to metric threads on my Servoshift but it appears that I do. I'll call Leblond but I don't think I'll be man enough for their pricing. Does anybody have any of these for sale? (I already tried ebay.) Thank you.
The solution will be more important than the media. I used to vibratory a lot of zinc parts. To get a beautiful finish on zinc I used Rotofinish L-980 alkaline burnishing compound. I think those parts will clean up fine. If you are in Southern California you might have Mechanical Metal Finishing...
I can't answer the installation question but there was a guy parting out a 61 in a thread a few pages deep. He still had those parts I believe. I have 2 very chewed up gears (I believe that same cluster that you are working on) I was going to call him about those.
I'll try that. And thanks. My headstock has 3 sight glasses (plus the one for the QCGB)and I'm removing them all to clean off the oil stain to make the oil level easier to see.
OK guys I give up. I looked for an hour on the machine and in 2 10ee manuals for the drain plug for the front bearing reservoir. Then I spent 4 hours going thru youtube videos hoping one of them would show draining the oil for maintenance or rebuild but no luck. I'm going to die of old age...
OK, I think I'm figuring it out. When you open the electrical cabinet and then hit the start button, you can see it start the main motor and the rapid motor at the same time. (I assumed the rapid motor only ran when you used the rapid.) When I start my Leblond Servoshift the chuck and the feed...
In the Series 61 operators manual (thank you vintagemachinery.org, and I made a $15 donation) under lubrication it says that the extra electric motor is the rapid traverse motor.
